Farage Brands Govt’s High Speed Rail Spending Spree ‘Sheer Madness’

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has criticised the government’s plans to proceed with the costly High Speed 2 (HS2) rail link despite the UK facing “the worst economic crisis for 300 years”, calling the decision “sheer madness”.

The Department for Transport announced on Wednesday that the government had approved the widely-unpopular HS2 high-speed network, which is projected to cost the British taxpayer more than £100 billion.

In the statement, the government said that the go-ahead “provides a vote of confidence in construction companies and the wider supply chain supporting HS2” at a time of economic uncertainty due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The near-200-mile high-speed rail link will connect London, Birmingham, Manchester, and Leeds and will not be operational until at least 2040.

Its a money fetish. Always follow the money (e.g., construction contracts to allies and jobs for union members). Its all about the financial feeding trough.

By which time the technology will be obsolete and much of the underlying infrastructure in need of being replaced.

Update their highway system. Use the Autobahn as a model.

Libs like control. Much easier to control people depending on government trains. Private cars allow to much freedom. I still think the so-called noise barriers along highways are to ensure people can’t escape when authorities block traffic.

Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean they’re not out to get you.

IF the high-speed rail project ever made any sense; then, now is the best time to proceed with it.

Infrastructure projects do stimulate the economy. Interest rates are very low right now, which should lower the costs.

Commies love their choo-choos. Forcing people into cattle cars for hours a day, reading their approved paper about the glories of big government. With signs everywhere saying, “This marvelous train provided for you by your wonderful leaders!”

And sitting through hours long breakdowns every week, while their betters get chauffered to work in limos.

Boris is generally pretty based but on certain issues like this and the Huawei 5g thing I can only assume some of the people around him advising him are deeply corrupt and have something to gain personally from decisions that do not serve the public good or national interest.
