A UK think tank has urged Boris Johnson to pull funding from the World Health Organization (WHO), following President Donald Trumps example, over the global organizations handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
According to The Express , the head of lifestyle economic affairs at the Institute of Economic Affairs, Christopher Snowdon, hinted at WHOs lackluster response to the outbreak, peddling a dangerous narrative and nestling up to China at the initial phase.
He said: The coronavirus pandemic has shown that the World Health Organisation needs to be reformed or replaced. As the organisations second-biggest funder, the UK should follow Americas lead. In 2018, the UK gave the WHO $200m, the equivalent of billions of face masks or thousands of ICU ventilators. It needs to be made clear that the WHO leadership has to be replaced and the agency has to return to its core mission of tackling epidemics with transparency, honesty and a single-minded focus. This is not the first time it has dropped the ball on infectious disease. The harsh truth is that it will not reform itself unless it is threatened with budget cuts.
Snowdon has also spoken about the possibility of replacing WHO if it cannot be reformed in its current state. The think tank economist has also defended Trumps decision to pull out, citing a dangerously inept and often bizarre approach to tackling the pandemic. The call for the UK to defund WHO comes days after President Donald Trump announced he would stop financing the organization.
Around 15% of WHOs budget is drawn from US funds. Last year, the USA donated around $400m to the tremendously scrutinized organization. National File reported: Last week, the President stated that he would be looking into defunding the WHO last week.

Wow, a think tank that actually thinks. Whod a thunk it...
Let’s see Nancy tell Boris he’s stupid, too.
Given the known facts, I would drop em too. A few weeks ago that director of WHO actually threatened PDJT saying something like “unless you have millions of body bags, dont make this political”. This aint political, its personal.
I watch a decent amount of news from Sky News Australia and their Prime Minister under increasing pressure to open their economy and defund the WHO
The moment the WHO outed itself as a thug organization
Its needs to be disbanded
Considering how little the rest of the world contributes to the WHO, perhaps creating a public-health monitoring alliance, similar to the Five Eyes (FVEY) intelligence alliance, would be best. An alliance of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States (or, other members of the Anglosphere too) wouldn’t have to deal with the corruption rampant in the UN and would have nearly as many resources available to do the job.
The civilized world should run such an organization completely independent of the UN.
And pointedly tell China they dont qualify as a civilized country.
To their faces.

I’ve been a proponent of an alliance among the English-speaking democracies for decades.
I can’t remember where I first found reference to the theme but I think it might have been something I read by Churchill back in the sixties. I’ve been very active in international business since the mid-seventies and can tell you that, with a few exceptions, when you deal outside the Anglosphere, everything becomes fuzzy.
Just go across the Channel to France.
That would work too. There are probably a few more countries that would still qualify.
I’ve long been a proponent of the British Commonwealth (or at least the 16 members of the Commonwealth Realm) becoming reinvigorated as a trading bloc. Britain, having shed itself of the EU, is finally eligible to enter such trade agreements again.
The U.S. would only have to align with the Commonwealth to form the alliance you mention. Some historic event, which escapes my memory for the moment, left the US out of the Commonwealth — but, I’m fairly confident the members would welcome the type of alliance you mention. (Notwithstanding the protests by the usual suspects.)
>Some historic event, which escapes my memory for the moment, left the US out of the Commonwealth<
Ha Ha!
You weren’t referring by any chance to the events of 1776 - 1783, were you?
We need Boris to do this. Trump is standing alone and it sucks.
There are probably a few more countries that would still qualify.
Most of the old eastern bloc Warsaw Pact countries. Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, etc.

Agreed. I probably should have used some kind of tag, so it was evident I was saying that tongue-in-cheek. I considered the ‘/s’ tag; but, I wasn’t so much being sarcastic as I was making a snide commentary on the state of western civilization these days.
That must be it! One hears so little about it, that it just slips the mind. ;-)
I think it’s doable.
No worries, friend.
Best of luck to you.

You’re obviously an Aussie.
Hear they shut all the pubs down your way and limited you to twelve bottle of wine and two slabs of piss a day.
Draconian!
