Report: Coronavirus Blocking Foreign Graduates from Taking U.S. Jobs
Breitbart ^ | 15 Apr 2020 | NEIL MUNRO

The coronavirus epidemic may block many foreign graduates from getting the college-level jobs needed by U.S. graduates this year, according to an article in QZ.com.

The piece of good news for U.S. graduates is a minor compensation for the millions of American college jobs wiped out in the economic crash caused by China’s lethal disease. U.S. students and political activists have begun targeting the program.

Every year, many U.S. universities accept tuition payments from foreign students and then help them get jobs via the little-known Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT) programs. In 2018, 200,000 foreign graduates and 151,000 foreign students got work permits from these two programs, for jobs starting in the summer.

U.S. students and political activists are increasingly protesting the program, which transfers good jobs from Americans to foreign graduates. “You want to win the youth vote?” asked Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, in an April 9 tweet directed at U.S. politicians. “Suspend all visas. That’s right: Every single visa so every single one of those college kids can get a job.”

The OPT program is also being targeted by a lawsuit.

This year’s OPT award process has been disrupted by the coronavirus and the resulting shutdown at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services offices, says QZ.com:

To participate, students must file OPT applications from inside the US and do so during the 120-day period starting 90 days before their graduation. After US president Donald Trump declared Covid-19 a national emergency on March 13, universities rushed to close their campuses. Many international students have left the country since. Unless the US government changes its rule, students who didn’t file for OPT before leaving the US won’t be authorized to work [...]

If you eliminate foreign students, then you eliminate the next Sergey Brin, Sundar Pichai, Elon Musk, etc.

You also push innovators to competitor countries. And you reduce your influence on the rest of the world

Our schools, using taxpayer money, should be teaching US citizens, not training foreign students, many who turn out to be spies. Besides, those foreign students become cheap labor to take jobs from Americans. And, for each seat that they take in school, that is one less American getting a chance at an education.

Foreign students spend lots of money in the USA

How much, exactly?

in addition, getting foreign students to come and learn in your country is a subtle way of control - when they go back they will be more favorable to your customs - the Romans did that and so did the British empire, successfully

The Romans and British assimiliated, they did not practice our "multiculturalism" and "diversity."

I’m guessing you are one of those FreeTraitors that put the world before foreign scum from mainly India and Communist China. We should be putting Americans first and foremost in every single category that matters. Not after the Indians or Communist Chinese. Piss of Microsoft and Google with their Indian management. Traitorous companies which no longer hire Americans. Why is 30% of students at UCSD, a school funded and paid for by American tax dollars, Communist Chinese who demand Americans STFU on our own soil (see what happened a few years back with the Dalai Lama)

how much, exactly? -- as per International students pay top dollar at us colleges -
Each pays tuition of $28,059, about three times as much as students from Washington State. And that, according to the dean of admissions, is how low-income Washingtonians — more than a quarter of the class — get a free ride.

By the reckoning of the Institute of International Education, foreign students in the United States contribute about $21 billion a year to the national economy, including $463 million here in Washington State.

The Romans and British assimiliated, they did not practice our "multiculturalism" and "diversity."

That's incorrect

The Romans freely adopted from each of the peoples they interacted (traded, ruled, conquered, fought) with - from cataphracts to aquaducts. What they did was learn from each, merge and improve. Their multi-culturalism was key to their becoming THE super-power: other rivals stuck to city-nationalism and failed, while Rome was open to borrowings, granting citizenship to long-haired Gauls and to Judeans etc.

The British assimilated heavily until the end of Company Raj in 1853 - how do you think British expressions such as "pukka sahib" or their very national drink came about? Furthermore the British were able to become great precisely because they practiced English-Welsh-Scottish-Norse-Huguenot-Jewish etc. multi-culturalism. Why did England rise from a "middle tier Germanic state" in the 1300s to a power in the 1600s and the super-power in the 1800s? Because it assimilated

From the Elizabethan era it muddled along, took on Huguenots, took on Dutch folks, heck it took on kings (the first two George's) who didn't speak English at all. It took on Dutch kings, Scottish kings, German kings etc.

The Brits also absorbed a lot from the Indian countries and kingdoms it absorbed and grew. Only from the 1870s did the British stagnate because they fell into the same myopia that the Mandarins and the Marathas did - they didn't learn from others and thought themselves separate

Note that in all successful multi-cultural entities, the fly in the ointment is Islam -- that doesn't lend itself to multi-culturalism, so Islam needs to be left out of any attempt at mutli-culturalism.

A diverse USA with Jews, Italians, Poles, Swedes along with a generci population of Germanics-Scots-Irish-English was and is a succcessful entity, until you try to add Islam in. Islam is the mud that muddies any attempt at multi-culturalism. Look at the UK itself - the Hindus, Christians, Sikhs from the Indian sub-continent have incarceration rates lower than English-whites and whites in general and close to 0 violent criminals. Muslims from the same area - with the same racial, ethnic, linguistic background have incarceration rates 4 to 5 times that of whites. The only differentiator is Islam -- Islam is the sh*t that stinks up multi-culturalism and Islam should be banned from any country outside the Hejaz

I’m guessing you are one of those FreeTraitors that hate the USA being the innovative country it is.

So you want new innovative companies to not come from the likes of Elon Musk, Sergey Brin etc. eh?

Then you say Why is 30% of students at UCSD, Communist chinese when you haven't even read anything about that school
Plagued by years of cuts in state funding, UC San Diego threw open its doors to Chinese students who were willing to pay three times as much tuition as California residents to attend the prestigious La Jolla school.

hese students, who are charged $30,000 more than Californians in annual undergraduate tuition.

Our universities generally do not educate, even before the entire system collapsed into its present comatose state from coronavirus hysteria disorder. The longstanding problem involves the intensive immersion-style Marxist indoctrination of domestic and foreign students, who then move into positions of power and influence (even in such lowly jobs as public schoolteacher) in America and throughout the world. Embracing any communist philosophy requires the shutdown of the rational faculties, which in turn prevents any education.

Imagine if our university system formed devout, intelligent, patriotic, rational-thinking leaders instead of depressed, semi-literate, confused communists too stupid even to recognize and understand the distinction and role of male and female. Imagine if we regularly returned well-formed members of the foreign group, rather than the latter group, to foreign countries around the world. The Chinese Communist Party perhaps would quit sending their teenagers hither for fear that they might return with a menacing contagion called freedom.

Chump change in a $20 Trillion economy.

What they did was learn from each, merge

If they merged, they were not practicing OUR "multiculturalism" - which holds that immigrants should maintain their own cultures and feel free (or even encouraged) to resist merger.

true, it is small - 0.1%, but
1. what is the percentage for universities? And where will they make up the shortfall in $$ from?
2. What about the collateral business around this?

The "collateral business" from 0.1% is likewise chump change.

Universities have plenty of places to reduce spending that doesn't benefit students - e.g. big salaries to professors who spend very little time in the classroom.
