Pretty embarrassing that we have to rely on India to manufacture.

Could it be that India provides a precursor to the manufacturers. Not sure how it is made, but if it starts with a natural quinine precursor, this might be why. Tried quick googling but no luck.

Worse than embarrassing that we also have to rely on China to provide us with so many of the medical goods we need to fight the virus China gave us. We need to move more of our medical supply chains from manufacture to distribution back into the US.

Not really - Hydroxychloroquine is or was used for malaria control mainly.

India has a lot of malaria cases, the USA in comparison doesn’t

So India has massive capacity to manufacture that quickly.

the USA can easily ramp up and manufacture that but it will take months. just as the USA took months to get the industrial engine pumping out battleships, tanks etc. in WWII, but when it did, it was unstoppable, the same here - time is of the essence, so buying from an existing bulk manufacturer makes sense.

Nothing embarrassing about that
