Two reasons. Power of course. But the other, bigger reason: the worse he craters the state, the greater the opportunity he has to totally corrupt it by rebuilding it in his demented and authoritarian image. This is what all these dem governors who are prepared to defy the 'reopen America' efforts are really going after. More pain = more power = more movement on agenda. They want you to suffer so they can advance their agenda, plain and simple.
