Hundreds of beeping vehicles swarmed downtown Lansing today, jamming up several intersections, blocking roadways and crowding the State Capitol lawn to protest Gov. Gretchen Whitmers Stay Safe, Stay Home executive order.
Many defied social distancing mandates in Whitmers order, crowding closely together with rifles and signs supporting Donald Trump. Others stayed in their cars and trucks, some pulling construction gear, landscaping equipment and motorboats. Music blared from loud speakers.
Hundreds ignored guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by not wearing masks or face covers, shouting about how Whitmer needs to be removed from office.
Rich Freiburger, owner of Rapid Concrete in Grand Rapids, parked his truck, complete with a Gadsden flag with the slogan Dont Tread on M and Trump 2020 banner, at the Cooley Stadium as crowds formed. He said hes missing out on at least $60,000 worth of business because construction is nonessential.
I can buy liquor. I can buy lottery tickets. It just doesnt make sense, Freiburger added. Im capable of putting myself out of business. I dont need any help from the governor. I really just want to survive. I didnt work this hard in all this to be shot down and put out of business.
Freiburger was among thousands who drove from across the state to demonstrate in downtown Lansing today as part of Operation Gridlock. The goal: cause a massive traffic jam and let Whitmer know that her executive lockdown has gone a step too far in Michigan.

From the article:
“Still, some elected leaders in Lansing pushed back against the temporary chaos downtown. Lansing City Council President Peter Spadafore called it a brazen display of selfishness.
Since they won’t let people work we’ll see how temporary it is. What else they have to do?
Yes indeed. A number of the Governors who think they are dictators need to see this much push back and more.
glad to see this movement and hope it grows
I think many of us were shocked at how fast and indefinitely the Bill of Rights was tossed. I could understand for a few days after a 9/11 event. Not this.
Now that weve had more than enough time to react lets REACT.
Give us time. Let this go one more month and the American people will take action. By May 1 everything needs to be open. Just a hunch on my part.
I wish Pennsylvanians would do this. My mother is in a nursing home there and her 88th birthday is tomorrow. My father who is 89 cannot visit her. I pray each day that God either ends this thing or man does. It is so possible that we may never see her again and that would probably kill my dad. I guess the dems will classify both deaths as Covid-19.
I believe something is planned for PA
Instead Whit-less decided to double down.
We ain't going to take it.
Idaho’s a-hole R governor just extended stay at home until end of April. I’ll work hard to make sure this ahole is a 1 term governor.
If government employees were losing their jobs as fast as the private sector this would be over in days.
Excellent idea
Construction carries on Los Angeles, from what I can see. But the construction companies are all manned by Mexicans, who—like cows in India—can do what they please.
Gov. Whitmer said that people participating in today’s Operation Gridlock were “putting each other at risk”. How does she know that?
For me it was the initial Shut down was supposed to be for two weeks in my state to make sure we got the resources in place still at the hospital handle it. OK, That makes sense, give the hospital some extra time to prepare and then slowly begin to reopen businesses, restaurants etc. maybe limited capacity in a restaurant for a while as an example. Then the two weeks turned into four, then the four into six, that into Bit over two months, at which point it will be reevaluated. It may get lifted then, it may not we will know in Connecticut until May 20 at this point.
uh, not exactly, the state has declared construction underway to be essential I am a RE broker and we are also essential. We were masks to show and work at home, already
