Japan was doing so well too. Looks like they lifted their mitigation measures too soon. Pray for Japan.

Japan has a huge elderly population and they live in very close quarters.

The aging of Japan is thought to outweigh all other nations; with Japan being purported to have the highest proportion of elderly citizens. Japan is experiencing a “super-aging” society both in rural and urban areas.[1] According to 2014 estimates, 33.0% of the Japanese population is above the age of 60, 25.9% are aged 65 or above, and 12.5% are aged 75 or above.[2] People aged 65 and older in Japan make up a quarter of its total population, estimated to reach a third by 2050.[3]

“They cannot require people to stay home or businesses not to operate.”

They’re not supposed to be able to do that in America either, but we the sheeple have allowed it.

Maybe a move to Japan is in order. Somewhere rural. Real estate should be cheap in the Fukushima area.

Japan doesn't operate with "open border" policies. The only foreigners that they allow to live there are those whom they deem to be useful. It is a fairly high standard.

Among other things, they require the companies which hire them to pay a wage premium over Japanese doing similar work. I was one of them for 14 years.

As a Tokyo resident, I can report that Japan is not on any kind of lockdown, but everyone is taking things seriously.

Almost everyone wears masks outside, hand sanitizer stations are at the entrances of all open businesses — and are being used, people are maintaining social distancing, and most bars and restaurants are closed even though “officially” the government doesn’t have the legal power to make closures mandatory.

There is a sense that the situation can continue like this for a good while, with companies operating at reduced capacity and with increased telecommuting for those jobs that make it possible, providing everyone stays alert and continues to maintain sanitation and distance.

I think that is what this message is intended to accomplish. They don’t believe those figures, but they want to keep people paranoid — both to keep the people who don’t need to go out at home and to keep those who have to go out alert.
