Omaha, NE — Restaurants, bars, and barbershops are now closed. You probably know that.
But one strip club is open.
And right now nobody is talking about shutting them down.
Even though there is some close contact police won't say if any rules are being broken.
Coronavirus may have temporally shut down a lot of businesses but at the Club Omaha stripping and lap dances are still on.
There's no food for sale. And this club doesn't sell booze anytime but women still get up on stage and do their thing.
"We're staying under the 10 person threshold. We're remaining six feet apart whenever we possibly can. We have sanitizer, wipes. We disinfect the club every night," says club president Shane Harrington.
So far, the most amount people that have been in the club at one time is seven.
Harrington says business has been slow, but the cash the club is making is better than nothing.
He says, "The girls love it because they actually have a chance to make some money and them coming and making 50/60 dollars on stage, that's the difference between them buying groceries this week or not."
He also says it's better than sending them to the unemployment line.
"This so-called $600 dollars money per week that's supposedly coming. I haven't heard a single person that's got it, applying for it is nearly impossible. You sit on hold for six hours and no one actually talks to you," says Harrington.
The club is still doing private lap dances.
We reached out to the Douglas County Health Department and the Omaha Police Department.
Both report that there may be issues with the lap dances, but neither could give me a clear answer on if the lap dances were breaking a rule.
Harrington says, "It's not me trying to be rogue. I don't want to be here but I made a promise to the girls that if we could keep the doors open in any capacity legally that I would stay here for them."
Harrington says even though business is slow, customers are tipping better than they normally do.
They had the women in glass booths back in the seventies and eighties.
