A CCP virus vaccine will likely move to phase two as soon as safety data comes in from phase one, Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel said on Tuesday.
Moderna quickly developed an experimental vaccine against the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as novel coronavirus, delivering the first doses to federal researchers in February. The first doses were given to volunteers the next month.
Things are going well with the trial and Bancel expects to move to phase two as soon as safety data comes in from phase one, Bancel said during an appearance on CNBCs Squawk Box on April 14, pending approval from the Food and Drug Administration.
Phase one has 45 subjects and phase two will have several hundred subjects.
The plan is then to start phase three by early fall while potentially initiating other studies outside the United States to give researchers more data.
The earliest we could have an approved vaccine, we believe, is in 2021, Bancel said.
What we are working with the authorities is to understand what can be done potentially later this year, assuming the virus might come back in the fall, to be able to protect the population at risk.
Moderna is working with federal agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Food and Drug Administration.
Bancel said safety is the first priority since the vaccine will be given to people who are not sick.
Volunteers have already been given 25 microgram and 100 microgram doses; researchers are now enrolling participants for the highest dosage, or 250 micrograms, Moderna said in a statement on Tuesday.
Bill Gates, who is funding multiple vaccine efforts, said last week that the flu vaccine isnt very effective in the elderly. The vaccine for the CCP virus will have to be different, he added.

Because the immune system wanes over time as you age, you could see how, worldwide, healthy adults might need the boost every three years, every 10 years, he said. Maybe you need an annual boost of the elderly.
Me?
I’m a little worried about a quickly developed vaccine.
No vaccine was developed for SARS or MERS but now within a couple of months we might have one for Corona?
Complications don’t usually pop up until something has been in use a while - or was tested for a long time.
SARS and MERS did not effect the economies of the world or this country, the way the CCP virus has.
I imagine that the quick response is a direct result of a "Pandemic".
There is world-wide demand, and demand generally means research and developement costs will be recouped.
I had read that for a vaccine being developed in the UK, they are manufacturing millions of doses right now in case it works. If it doesn’t, then they will just throw them out.
That’s the way to move in an emergency.
Moderna - yet another Bob Langer startup.
You are wise to be concerned.
Any vaccine that is rushed to market at breakneck speed out of panic is likely to be:
- Dangerous, or
- Ineffective, or
- a Placebo
RE: SARS and MERS did not effect the economies of the world or this country, the way the CCP virus has.
Well, how contagious ( i.e. transmissible ) are these viruses compared to this Noel Coronavirus of 2019?
Based on a cell line taken from an aborted baby.
Source, please?
Get your experemental drugs, from the people who created the virus.
Perfectly safe.
Yeah, but that does not in any way mean that they aren’t just as deadly.
I hope they don’t forget to make a double dose version for seniors.
It’s like the flu shot. Most seniors have been exposed to so many pathogens over their lifetimes, they shrug off the standard dose flu shot and it has no effect on them.
Thanks!
I heard that Johnson and Johnson uses human aborted cell lines (murdered babies) in their vaccine.
Let’s pray that other companies will be ethical and use chicken cell lines, or anything that is ethical.
