Being sequestered at home gives one the opportunity to reflect on the political actions taken over the past several weeks and the associated praise and criticisms resulting from those actions.
President Trump has repeatedly referred to the actions he's taken in terms of military execution, and rightfully so. His team has garnered their resources to get key supplies to combat this viral enemy at the hot spots that arise. There is no politicizing priorities of help. After all, it appears the hardest hit states are run by Democrats. Theres little politicizing the facts about human-to-human transmission of the Chinese virus and its fission-like spreading, either. It makes one wonder when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her ally, Rep. Adam Schiff promote a 9/11-like commission regarding response to the spread of the virus when Pelosi championed Chinese Lunar Year celebrations in San Francisco just weeks earlier. My assumption was that they were referring to the 9/11/01 commission and not the 9/11/12 (Benghazi), but I digress.
The reason I ask the question about preparedness is because I wonder how many of us remember or were even aware of the multiple simulated biowarfare attack exercises performed over the past in major urban areas. I have to admit that I was a little surprised that 60 Minutes had uncovered in the 1970s or early 1980s the existence of such exercises. The government used high concentrations of certain bacteria and spores for the simulations.

The US was not prepared, but it was also not unique. None of the major countries in the world were prepared. This is why it is unfair to call any national leader out on the topic....or if you prefer.... why they should all be called out. To throw this at Trumps feet and blame him is asinine. Blame China for not following regulations and leave it at that.
Went shopping today and the TP shelves are STILL mostly empty. Where are people keeping in their houses? Or are they renting space?
I am not worried about TP. I also do not want warehouses full of taxpayer funded PPE that will rot just like many of the warehoused supplies post-Katrina went bad and spoiled. It is a waste of money.
I am over 50 and this is the only event like this in my lifetime.
Were we unprepared? Sure. I don’t think you can ever prepare for an event like this and how would this have been different if we had all the PPE in the world for hospitals or if we had 40000 dusty respirators? What would it have changed?
Move our pharmaceutical manufacturing back here to the US. Move our manufacturing of PPE back to the US.
On another note - move manufacturing for electrical distribution equipment back to the US and require a certain level of spares. Imagine this “lockdown” with no electricity. One good solar storm could knock out our entire grid and we don’t have the replacement parts here in the US or the spare transformers. That would be far more devastating than this virus and we would have to rely on China to make the equipment. Imagine our large cities without power, food, and basic sanitation.
Would China rush our equipment if theirs was also knocked out or if our nation was imploding?
We should not rely on China to make anything that is critical for our nation.
My thoughts exactly. Monday morning quarterbacking on this issue is ridiculous.
The US was not prepared. The emergency stockpiles were dangerously low at both the State and Federal level. Bureaucratic procedures were in place that stymied efforts toward an efficient and rapid response. FDA and CDC regulatory requirements were doing more harm than good.
When we get past this, there should be a careful examination of what was wrong, not who was wrong. People should be encouraged to be open and honest without recrimination. There should not be witch hunts that promote "cover your ass" responses. Problem solving is about fixing what was wrong, not finding our who screwed up.
Costco person said awhile back that the TP is sold the same day it is delivered.
We were not prepared because our entire supply chain comes from one country.
Will we learn from this or after the virus is over we will go back to normal and continue to buy from China?
People say we will move from China. I will believe it when I see it.
That is insane
After all this time were still under quarantine in US because most people still dont know if they have COVID-19 or its antibodies, no tested-safe vaccine available. So US was definitely unprepared imo.
I remember civil defense and fire drills way back when. We certainly failed this virus drill.”
Also a problem with obesity (food escapism) versus balanced diet and regular exercise (as I sit in front of a computer).
This is also an Orange Man Bad election year, desperate Democrats trying to steal back their favorite toy, the Oval Office, no matter what the cost.
Send “Orange Man Bad” federal and state government Democrats and RINOs home in November!
Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress and state government leaders that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA and stopping COVID-19 will effectively give fast-working Trump a third term in office imo.
MAGA, also KAGA! (Keep America Great Always!)
