How the CDC and the FDA Wrecked the Economy

"The failure to conduct early and wide testing left politicians ignorant of basic facts about the COVID-19 epidemic.

Public officials across the United States are flying blind against the COVID-19 epidemic. Because of a government-engineered testing fiasco, they do not know how fast the virus is spreading, how many people have been infected by it, how many will die as a result, or how many have developed immunity to it.

The failure to implement early and wide testing, which was caused by a combination of short-sightedness, ineptitude, and bureaucratic intransigence, left politicians scrambling to avoid a hospital crisis by imposing broad business closure and stay-at-home orders. It foreclosed the possibility of a more proactive and targeted approach, focused on identifying carriers, tracing their contacts, and protecting the public through isolation and quarantines.

----- At first, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) monopolized COVID-19 tests. When the CDC began shipping test kits to state laboratories in early February, they turned out to be defective.

The CDC and the Food and Drug Administration initially blocked efforts by universities and businesses to develop and conduct tests before relaxing the restrictions that made it impossible to assess the progress of the epidemic. ------------ Our ignorance about COVID-19 will have profound consequences, potentially leading to an overreaction that wrecks the economy while saving relatively few lives or (less likely, given the current political climate) an underreaction that costs many lives and allows hospitals to be overwhelmed by COVID-19 cases. You can thank the same agencies on which we are relying to guide us through this crisis.

More in the story, including some good links. The CDC and FDA basically prevented any decent testing for the virus, until after the major outbreaks were blowing up. So the Trump Administration had no good data to use to base their decisions on. Hence, reliance on models alone, which showed absurd numbers of deaths. So Fauci and friends had free reign to go draconian on all of us.

This is criminal. And now they are blaming Trump, when it was these two agencies who screwed us all. I do not think this was all an accident or ineptitude.

There are alot of variables to this pandemic. Placing blame is a non-starter. We need to work together and not get into witch hunting. Would of, should, could of is 20/20 hindsight. Learn the lessons and be better prepared in the future.

With all the measures taken far fewer people will have developed immunity and when it comes back in the Fall it will be a Horrible Emergency all over again. Fortunately in my county, maybe in the wider area, ta milder strain of the CCPV wet through here in early February and perhaps also way back in November. We have a few cases but the increase is by ones and twos. It is not exponential. And not many people stay home. The stores are full. People line up closely for the To-Go restaurants. Mask wearing is spotty. At least two large employers are working full on and workers in both tend to work on top of each other. Not many masks there. they get in the way of the job. There is a show of temping everyone as they come to work but the guages are for skin temp and not terribly accurate, anyway.

The primary lesson that has been learned is that this population will sheepishly submit to house arrest and will accept whatever the government wants to do to them and the Constitution is a quaint relic with limited relevancy.

Nope. Only the Communist Chinese wrecked this economy. No one else.

Oh, you better believe demonicRATS learned something from all this. Look for lockdowns to become a regular feature of American Life.

I think as a trial run, this is nothing short of smashing success for the Left.

'Course, after this is all over, some new monstrous government bureaucracy will be created to "handle" these situations.

Oh, crap, why did I say that? I take it back! I take it back!

They never miss a check, benefits or retirement.

We pay for them to have more security than most of us will ever even dream of.

Did you know that 60 years the gooberment had layoffs? Yup, sure did. Did you also know that many gooberment jobs were temporary and without benefits? It was a big deal to be hired full time in many agencies. Yup, all true. Then came the unions, LBJ, EEO, etc. Layoffs ended and so did most of the temporary workforce. You seldom see a temp feral worker anymore. It is a good solid demoncrap voting block.

How much longer will we tolerate it on our backs while our “servants” live like kings and we don’t? Only revolt will stop it.

Just make the novel treatments widespread, in spite of the rantings and ravings of Dimocrats, the press and the Medical Apparat, and we start gradually opening up the economy starting on April 30. Just end home confinement rules on April 30, open up non-essential businesses fully for Memorial Day weekend, and then open up the bars, restaurants, theaters, stadiums, etc. on June 21 to welcome in the summer.

This other freaky alternative with immunity cards, vaccines with specific personal IDs — screw you, Bill Gates — and other police state measures is entirely un-American. The viral slow burn idea exemplified by a slow re-opening of the economy above and mass productions of novel treatments is the way to go, IMO, with protections for vulnerable groups.
