An experimental treatment for the coronavirus showed promise in an early analysis of the drug as the world scrambles for a cure to the highly infectious virus.
According to a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine, Gilead Sciences Inc.s experimental drug remdesivir was able to effectively treat a number of patients in the U.S., Europe and Canada who needed respiratory support.
The report tracked 53 patients, about half of whom needed mechanical ventilation and four of whom were on a heart-lung bypass machine. Of the 53 patients, 36 saw an improvement in oxygen-support class. Twenty-five people were discharged, while seven died. Mortality was particularly high among those who were on a ventilator.
The patients received the drug through Gileads compassionate use program, which is for critically ill patients who are unable to take part in a clinical trial.
We recognize the limitations of these compassionate use data from a purely investigational perspective, while knowing they are of the greatest significance for the patients whose symptoms improved," said Gilead CEO Daniel ODay. "These early data from 53 patients have not been generated in a clinical trial and cover only a small portion of the critically ill patients who have been treated with remdesivir."
A number of larger scale trials are underway to study the effect remdesivir has on COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus. One trial conducted in China is expected to release results this month, while another from the U.S. National Institutes of Health could report results in the coming weeks.

If Trump mentions it though the media will attack it.
How true.

They are talking about remdesivir. There was a battle about this with the Wuhan Institute of Virology. Look it up.
Do they have anything for those who are totally burned out on hearing about this Chicom cootie? If they do, I’ll take a double dose.
Gezzzz.
worse improvement state than chloroquine
chloroquine is probably safer as well.
I mention before a doc from SLU interviewed locally about this and was very negative on HCQ.
Your most nobly noetic Nullness, those symbols leave me baffled. Can you translate to the common vernacular? The void is gone, along with my job.
Of 53, half on ventilators (26?), 7 died. 7/26 = 27% fail rate. Normal fail rate for ventilated patients is 80% or more. So remdesivir is significant. I think it’s the drug that the US armed forces were stockpiling in February.

It took me a bit. Eyebrows, winky eyes, nose, tongue sticking out(?), chin/goatee.
Tip your head to the sinister side.
Check out the cost. Apps $100.00 while HCQ is $1.00. Now you know why they dont want HCQ.
Encouraging. There is also promising looking results with IL 6 and IL 5 inhibitors .
Remdesivir is $1000, and on patent, of course. Fauci loves it.
HCQ is $20 in America, less elsewhere. And long off patent. Fauci hates it.
So many knew this from the beginning. No,I am not a doctor! How many died and how much did America die because the left held this back?
not only is this drug being promoted by Fauci, who has a financial interest but-———————
Chinese researchers have applied for a national patent on an experimental Gilead Sciences Inc. drug that they believe might fight the novel coronavirus.
The Wuhan Institute of Virology — based in the Chinese city at the center of the epidemic — has applied for a patent in China for the use of the antiviral drug, known as remdesivir, in treating the ailment. The application was made on Jan. 21 together with a military academy, according to a Feb. 4 statement on the institutes website.
Large areas of China have been paralyzed by the coronavirus, and the move signals a desire to speed development of one of the most promising potential treatments. Beijing has moved aggressively to contain the infection that has killed almost 500 people and sickened nearly 25,000. If the application succeeds, Gilead would need to get Chinese patent owners on board in sales of the drug for treating coronavirus infections outside China.

I know that the average price for HCQ+Azithromycin treatment for Covid-19 is somewhere less than $30.00
What I’d like to know how much Remdesivir would cost to treat Covid-19.
