NEW YORK - The winter season isnt the only thing in full swing. The flu season is also in high gear here in the Big Apple.
Doctors are reporting an early rise in cases ahead of the peak.
The Department of Health said usually the flu season starts in October and lasts through May, often peaking in February. However, the department is reporting an early rise this year. State health officials said the total number of confirmed cases this season in New York is 8,253 with one official saying there are more cases at this point in time than the past three flu seasons.
The number of new confirmed flu cases in New York just for the week ending Dec. 14 was 3,264, which is a 77% increase. Of those 3,264 cases, 2,028 were in New York City, 319 were on Long Island and 119 were in Westchester.
Sometimes people are feeling so unwell that they really decide that the emergency room is the right place for them to go, said Dr. Erick Eiting, vice president of operation at Mount Sinai Downtown. About this time of year, we would see a big uptick in influenza A, but what were seeing is a lot more of influenza B and we are still not sure what that means at this point.
If youre fevers not coming down with typical measures like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen, if you cant keep fluids down, if you feel like youre having difficult breathing, these are times when you need to come to the hospital, Dr. Robert Glatter, of Lenox Hill Hospital, said.
Ernesto Romero, of Jamaica, Queens, was hospitalized after coming down with the flu.
Like a train hit me. I felt pretty sick, pretty bad, he said. I couldnt walk. I couldnt get out of bed.

My guess, like with California, it was corona..and it was here in December just no one knew it yet..there were thousands of people coming here from Wuhan in December, January, are we supposed to believe NONE of them were infected with the virus
Did you miss the word ‘confirmed’ in the title?
Bad flu season.
awesome- i was hoping something would come along making us wonder whether we had the Chinese virus or just the flu-
A moose with a cold bit my sister in 1972.
It was coronavirus.
Most were likely tested for flu. The flu test is a 5 min thing. I went in December to urgent care for a gastro event and before they took vitals they took flu and strep tests. So I think these numbers represent flu not covid.
My sisters two neighbors were really sick in January, both had pneumonia but the wife had it real bad, she went to the ER three times both took a month to feel better..both were tested for influenza B since neither had the flu shot, both were negative
How many of these “flu” infections were improperly diagnosed, and were in reality COVID-19 Wuhan virus? That would partly explain the underground spread of the Wuhan virus, before anybody knew or had any idea it may have been already in the country.
At my office a few weeks before Christmas we had a high number of people who legitimately called in sick because of the flu. When they came back some of them were mentioning that they had the usual symptoms of the flu, but they noticed they had more chest congestion than usual. None of them required hospitalization, but some needed prescription drugs to recover. I wonder if this could have been the Wuhan flu too.

P.S. Influ B, and Wuhan Coronavirus, were not the only two diseases out there this past fall/winter which can cause pneumonia. Heck, the flu varieties in China in spring 2019 weren’t even the main varieties that had outbreaks in the US.
Then it would not have been reported as flu, at least in NY. And it may have been Covid but did it spread to anyone else ?
I think that is the only test they got, what is weird is that their two kids, ages 4 and 1 yr, both did not get sick. My nephew in December got really sick, 105 fever(He was 4 yrs old at the time) no other symptoms just a high fever that he could not break..my sis called a doc from heal.com(She did not want to go to urgent care with him) and the doc said probably influenza B but he was never tested, took a week for the fever to finally go away, my sis and her hubby never got it thank Goodness both were wearing masks
Hence the reason for the Stanford Medical School study ongoing. Epidemiologists are now openly wondering if that unusually strong common cold and flu season in California back in December 2019 and January 2020—much of it unidentifiable!—was actually the first wave of COVID-19 due to it coming from Chinese citizens visiting relatives in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles metro regions during that period.
The CV-19 antibody test will answer the question.
They both really want the antibody test done so will see what happens
NYC is a filthy filthy place......
