Antibody testing starting Friday in L.A. County to find past COVID-19 infections

Six sites across Los Angeles County will be used to test for coronavirus antibodies in 1,000 people to find out how many have already fought off the virus, USC Price School of Public Policy officials said Thursday.

The pilot serology tests will start on Friday and Saturday and take place at drive-thru sites throughout the county every two weeks to track the trajectory of the pandemic, according to a news release from the school.

Working with the L.A. County Department of Public Health, the school said it hopes to find if people have the antibodies or immune cells that potentially give them immunity against COVID-19, which had sickened nearly 8,000 and killed 223 patients countywide as of Thursday.

“Testing for antibodies to the virus that causes COVID-19, in addition to testing for the absence of the virus itself using traditional COVID-19 tests, could potentially identify those who can enter the workforce with minimal risk of infecting others or getting infected themselves,” the school said.

Antibodies are specific proteins made in response to an infection and are found in the blood and in other tissues of those who are tested after infection.

Finding antibodies during a serology test would mean that a person had an immune response to the coronavirus, even if they hadn’t developed any symptoms, according to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention.

Using a representative sample of 1,000 randomly pre-selected people, the study also hopes to find out how many people in the county have ever contracted the coronavirus, painting a more accurate picture of the spread of the virus.

Will the antibody tests (or any of them being developed) be able to tell roughly when an individual might have been infected with COVID-19? It would be nice to know if infections occurred early than what the various governments are going to tell us when they happened.

Where are Drs. Shut-It-Down and Scarf?

This shoulda been started weeks ago by the heavily funded CDC/NIH/FDA.

Boy, this would suck if you wanted to get back to work, but didn’t have the antibodies.

That's gonna be one long line at the drive-thru.

And a lot of disappointed people with only 1000 tests in LA.

Get in line now!

Im surprised there isn’t push back on this by the Fauci cartel. This has been with us way longer than we have been told and this will prove it.

I don’t think so- they just show whether or not there are antibodies- they can tell for instance that you had mono- but not tell when you got it- i would imagine it’s the same for this virus-

I would be interested in getting the test as our family had what we then called ‘The Crud’- had several of the symptoms that the virus has, but a few that only a few get with the virus- so I doubt we had it, but ya never know- coulda picked it up back then, was at the hospital during that time-

Why would Fauci or Brix push back against this? At the pressers, they’ve been pushing hard for these very tests. They see these tests as being the key to allow some return to normalcy. They talked about the importance of these tests, in every presser I’ve watched. The tests (equipment, reagents, labs, etc.) were simply not available before. They’re becoming available now because they were a top priority of the Trump administration and the Task Force.

It seems that too many FReepers are getting their information second hand, spun dry, and distorted by various media. Watch the Task Force briefing videos — see who is actually saying what, when, and why.

"Why would Fauci or Brix push back against this?"

They are not freaking in charge of things at FDA/CDC/NIH?

This type of testing has been indicated for a couple of months. If not in the US, then in Korea or Taiwan. They must have access to such data by now.

I have watched every briefing. Except today.

I have pushed for this myself. People can SAY whatever they want as the country is locked down and the economy set to be ruined. The WORLD economy. The false premise that this wasn't here until late Feb to early March could have been dispelled much earlier.

This is super contagious. One sneeze in an international airport. One. C'mon. That's all it takes with tis highly contagious virus. and we just NOW have serology testing? And what a great job the CDC did with actual virus testing. Remember that? Well, I have a long memory. Serology testing could have been developed long ago.

The lies by the WHO and by China that were eaten up by media have left an utterly error ridden perception of when this virus first arrived.

Testing for 'herd immunity'.

Models show that more Californians should be infected presently...why aren't they?

Speculation is that the coronavirus has been infecting people a lot longer than previously realized.(?)

Could be good news if true.

In late January there were the school systems of entire counties in the northern part of Alabama (I think some other states too) shut-down for severe flu outbreaks.

I've wondered about these 'flu' outbreaks.

Germany has started doing this, and found 15% penetration, which was a shock to them.

Germany has 83 million people, and a “known” positive test count of 120,000. That is a 0.14% positive test rate.

So of course 15% was a shock, I think it was 10 times as much as they expected for the city where they did the sampling (which I assume was where a lot of positive cases were).

Also, using that number, the actual death rate for the COVID in germany is about 0.4%

“They are not freaking in charge of things at FDA/CDC/NIH?”

That’s right — they aren’t in charge of those institutions. Trump & Pence hand-picked their Wuhan Virus Task Force members to coordinate a whole-government response. Early on, Trump was criticized for putting V.P. Pence in charge as Chairman of the Task Force (rather than letting, e.g. the CDC run things).

Amb. Brix is an internationally-recognized expert, who was assigned to the Office of the V.P. to work on the Taskforce.

Dr. Fauci is director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases — once again, hand-picked by Pence to serve on the T.F.

The T.F. members are telling us things we don’t want to hear — but, at least they are telling us things. You should be thankful for such transparency — we don’t have it in Canada.

Dr. Just-Shut-It-Down [isolation is my only tool] is part of the NIH. One would think he is in charge of getting the NIH to properly respond to the appropriate issues for them as they arise.

I just checked with the CV triage nurse in my County [where there are only two cases not currently resolved.] to see about getting some testing done when I return to my Compound from being in a hot spot for weeks that is miles and miles away.

“No testing for YOU!” They are still restricting tests to those with a multiplicity of symptoms.

Not a good way to get the Country opened up. Not even a good way to keep the CV snuffed out within the County, if that is actually their goal.

Spend Billion$ on testing ilo Trillion$ on corrupt welfare.
