Very close to me: South St. and Downey Ave. For me near St. Pancreatious Church. I attended Alondra before we moved to Downey and Del Amo area.
What an awesome performance! Thanks for that link! His quirks aside, Elton John is a modern master. Imagine those hundreds of musicians playing in ensemble so perfectly, and him playing and singing precisely on point without printed music in front of a live audience. Just awesome.
I still remember the first time I heard Elton John, over the radio while touring the country in my VW in 1971. Had to stop the car and just listen when “Your Song” came on the radio. I’ve only ever done that for two other artists: Luciano Pavarotti and Adele.
When I saw the movie Rocky the week it came out, I was living in Philly, and I remember calling a friend and saying, “I just saw the most terrific film set in Philly! Don’t know if anyone who doesn’t live in Philly would understand it, though.” Wrong! I guess I can say the same about “Philadelphia Freedom.” It’s not just a mascot song for one city — it’s a fantastic song. (btw, Philly was great back in the day, before it got “woke”.)
In the 1950's and 1960's, we used to go to Dutch Village, a mall at Woodruff and South, where we would regularly shop at Federal Employees' Distributing Company, aka Fedco, a department store that required membership and whose membership was restricted to government employees, teachers, etc. Fedco later moved to South and Pioneer. It went out of business in 1999.
In the mid-1980's, Dutch Village, which looked like a Dutch village, a tribute to the Dutch dairy farmers who were once numerous in the area, was razed and replaced by mall that, architecturally speaking, looks like any other mall.

I love that song. He mentions the town of Cut N Shoot.
Town has several stories of how it got it’s name.
One is that there used to be a bar on the side of the road there and on Saturday nights, someone would end up either cut up or shot. Maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not.
