Wondering what’s behind Trump’s improved poll numbers? His attacks on the press
Washington Post ^ | April 3 2020 | Colbert I. King

Seems like President Trump can get away with saying and doing just about anything he wants. The extent to which he has achieved that end is demonstrated by the credit he is getting for his handling of the coronavirus crisis. Trump, in truth, has contributed more to the confusion and disruption plaguing the country’s response to the pandemic than any other public official in the land. Yet he was able to call in to “Fox & Friends” last Monday morning and brag, “I’ve gotten great marks on what we’ve done with respect to this. I’ve gotten great marks.” He happens to be on to something. How did it come to this?

Because Trump is accomplishing what he set out to do when he launched his presidential bid: bring down the press in the public eye to the point where his word, not ours, is believed. Some of us could see it coming.

LOL. I recall a recent poll, in which a majority of people disapproved of the media coverage of the virus.

To look at another way, the media have a lower approval level than President Trump. That’s got to hit the media where it hurts.

Trump aims to slime the media as unintelligent, untrustworthy and undeserving of respect.

In short, he tells the truth about them.

Probably, but their motto is "don't cry your way out, lie your way out."

Not really.

The public enjoys watching the President line up fake news network, White House Press Corp reporters. After all the crap propaganda the Fake News has published over the last 4 years, America enjoys watching President Trump spank them into line, insisting on civility and professionalism.

And this includes Washington Post Press Corps reporters.

Ask not for whom the Prez trolls.
He trolls for thee.

And America knows it.

Trump is an exquisite counter-puncher. If you leave him alone, he leaves you alone. If you hit at him (or someone he cares about) he hits back and harder. It is not pretty, or “politically correct” but it works for him.

The Dems have him all wrong. If they wanted to neutralize him, just ignore him. The press is just too stupid and locked into a self destructive spiral. They are taking the Dems down with them (which is fine with me)

Bull**it numbers from Fauci and Birx, along with fearmongering from the MEDIA, are responsible for this country spending TRILLIONS unnecessarily, and destroying its economy for no reason .

” It is not pretty, or “politically correct” but it works for him.”

Yup, all of these genius reporters can’t figure that out.

This person is close to a point, but far to blind to really understand it.

No administration is perfect. It would be fair, and reasonable to discuss missteps by the Trump administration, if the media hadn’t already staked out their claim of oppose President Trump at all costs.

I know I am more than willing overlook errors by the administration due to the media’s stringent opposition.

When the whole country can see that the press are 100% working to take him down it’s natural we’re going to come to his aid.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.

The American Press are bullies. They always have been.

For most of our nation’s history it did not matter that the press was bias. They were proud of their bias. If you have a chance look for Newspaper’s names from a hundred years ago.

They were the DAILY REPUBLICAN or the DAILY DEMOCRAT or some such version of that in their masthead. It let you know what their bias was.

I say it did not matter because every city or town of any size had at least two newspapers, they balanced each other out. While one would defend the crooked politician the other would go after them.

This all changed after WWII when TV became the prime source of news. Daily newspapers began to lose subscribers and fell by the wayside. Those that were left were bought up by large corporations.

At one time there were thousands of newspapers with a thousand different voices. Today there are lot fewer but all speaking in the same voice. They are pro left and they hate us. President Trump is just an easy target.

The American people (with exceptions) no longer believe anything Pravda on the Potomac has to say anymore.

Everything they write is slanted.

California is a one party state because the news media never covers anything negative about Democrats. So why pay them to lie to us.

“If they wanted to neutralize him, just ignore him.”

You’d think so, but Trump’s really in a position that he wins no matter what they do. If they ignore him, the noise level decreases, things seem more “normal”, and that always favors the incumbent anyway. If they bait him, he slams them more and the people in his corner love that, too.

That’s part of the reason Trump’s enemies are so frustrated. Nothing they try has worked.

IF he gives guidance to begin opening the country May 1 his chances of re-election are about 90%. If he demurs to Fugazzi and Scarfette and their head up their rectum approach to this “pandemic”. I’d say it’s less than 50/50/ He will look weak and indecisive and cow towing to the technocrats and scientific Asperger class. After May 1 thank Fugazzi for his service and tell him we will be in touch if he’s needed. Guy has been an absolutely disaster. Confusing and confused jumble of contradictions and head in the sand stubbornness.
