Local governments around the US are taking more draconian measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus by barring "essential" stores such as grocery chains or big-box retailers from selling "nonessential" items such as clothing and electronics.

These stores, which have been allowed to stay open during state lockdowns because they sell groceries or offer pharmacy services, for example, are now required in some parts of the US to remove nonessential items or rope off areas of the store so customers can't access these products.

Then they may just decide it’s not profitable to remain open at all.

Idiots.

Electronics? How will we get the propaganda if we need a new TV, or radio or computer?

Who is to say what is essential to someone at any given time.

This is nothing less than pure tyranny.

Aldi’s said they’ve converted their store aisles to one way traffic.
I’ll check that out tomorrow and report.
My wife found one in a county with only two reported cases about 45 minute ride.

Clothes and electronics are all from China.

I doubt there’s a “supply chain” to support the crap, anyway.

Try telling little Johnny that he can’t have a squirt gun or coloring book or glue, markers, and paper. Or a Matchbox car. Or whatever.

I guess the governors in those states own a lot of stock in Amazon. Or maybe their sons and daughters do. Or wives.

My patience is running thin today for some reason. I can only imagine how other parents are dealing with being home with their children all day and night when they are accustomed to sending them to government day care. I have homeschooled, and I’ve worked in schools. There is no way some snowflake parents are going to be able to handle this for much longer. These are folks that must have “me time” and “girls night out” time and so on. I hope China is not the top supplier of anti-anxiety meds because when those run out . . .

I have been struggling with the fact that some stores are just shut down but Walmart/Target/etc can sell those supplies but I think the answer is to not allow them to sell clothing, appliances, electronics, but to allow any store to open and apply common sense rules as to how many people are in the store at once, how close they can stand in line, etc.

Honestly a pair of pants is essential if you need them to work and you just tore your last pair. Is me buying a washing machine essential if mine just died or should we just wash our clothes by hand for the next 30 days?

All crazy.

I just went to Costco the day before yesterday and most people were doing a pretty good job of practicing social distancing on their own with no direction. The store had signs up reminding people about it.

On top of that, many people were wearing masks.

This is government overreach. Why can Amazon still sell and deliver such items, but a store that is allowed to remain open cannot?

Uh, my essential may not be their essential. Now ‘they’ get to choose MY essential? No.

There was an article a week or so ago that said that Vermont considered vegetable seeds to be non-essential.

What a ridiculous over reach by local governments.

Its good thing that I just used the Costco HVAC contractor to install my new system on February 14th then, otherwise the fact that my 28 year old failed system may not have been an essential item. This would have subjected me to use my fireplace to burn wood and brought down the hammer like authority of my local Clean Air Authority that love to write $1,000 tickets per violation.

Everyday this keeps going is another day closer to socialism and Trump will not be able to stop it.
