At the end of March 2020, Newsy.com/IPSOS conducted a survey asking people if they had purchased a firearm in response to the coronavirus pandemic. The survey is reported to have found one in 20 households purchased a gun with that reason in mind. Another one in ten households were said to be considering purchasing a gun for that reason. From newsy.com:
One in 20 households say they've bought a gun in response to the coronavirus outbreak. That's according to an exclusive Newsy/Ipsos survey showing that many Americans have reacted to COVID-19 and the uncertainty brought on by the pandemic by buying or thinking about buying guns.
I got a Glock. That seemed like a pretty reliable very reputable weapon.

I thought about purchasing a firearm for a while. Never really was sure about it. Also I'm not like, I don't know, a gun nut, or like, I don't know, also usually more on the side of like heavier gun controls probably not a terrible thing like better background checks and things like that. We were just like, well, maybe now is the time just in case, like, something crazy happens or people start losing their minds Maybe better to have one and not need it than need it and not have it.
There are reported to be about 129 million households in the United States in 2020. Five percent of that (1 in 20) would be 6.5 million households.

Need a gun with a ventilator attachment.
Selling, not buying.
I feel left out. I’ll just buy a .300 BO and a can to make myself feel better.
My daughter got her new permit and gun just in time before her state stopped processing.
There are approximately 128 million households in the US.
At 1 in 20 or 5% that would be 6.5 million purchasing firearms in March.
Actual sales in March are estimated at about 2 million.
Therefore, even if it was just one firearm per household sale (ie. no households purchased two or more) the survey is still off by more than a factor of 3.
I feel left out too. I have all the firearms and ammo I need, so I avoided going to any stores. Now, that’s “need” but not want... I’d still like to add a medium/large revolver to our collection. Something with a 4” to 6” barrel in .357 Mag or maybe .44 Mag. Well, the 357 would probably be a smarter choice. We already have a .38 spl revolver my wife carries. We could run that ammo through a 357 in a pinch. Of course why start making sense with caliber selection / commonality now? We already have firearms in .22 LR, .380, .38 spl, 9mm, .45 ACP, 12 ga, 5.56, 30-30... Why not add yet another caliber? sigh... ;-)
I meant to pick up a lever action .30-30 a few weeks ago, and put it off.
Stupid me!
As soon as I get out again, that is first thing on my list.
Talk to your friends to see who might have gotten their first gun recently. As soon as feasible, get them to the range and get them trained up on hitting the target, safe handling, and safe storage. Pass on your knowledge and get them comfortable with being responsible for their own security.
This is an opportunity to expand our tribe.
And then, next Fall, when the weenies start advocating to take away their guns... Instant Republican!
I wish my stimulus check would get here. I aint bought a gun in over 20 years. I got one all picked out and a nice spot to put it in and everything.
The Sig P365 sure is purdy.
You have several choices:
Winchester
Marlin
Henry
I prefer the Marlin 336, myself.
With the gubmints 1000 smacker rebate, a new Colt Python will end up costing right a 500 bucks! What a deal!
It even makes a FN-SCAR some what reasonable.
Ruger Match Champion,,,
.
Nuff said.
Do I go with a 6" barrel that *I* might have a chance at shooting reasonably accurately, or delude myself into the notion I might want to carry this someday and thus go with a 4" barrel?
Do I go 357 and thus be able to share 38 spl range ammo with the wife and her S&W 5 shot 38 spl? Or do I succumb to the "more power" bug and go 44 mag?
Do I go with the hype and wait for a new Colt Python - which is a very good looking firearm... Or something a little more mainstream like a S&W 686 or Ruger GP100 (1707)?
This kind of indecision is why I don't have my "big" revolver yet... ;-)
Not a bad option, I could get talked into that...
A gun is a ventilator.
