A key forecasting model used by the White House has revised its prediction of COVID-19 deaths in the U.S., now estimating a peak of 60,415 by early August.
The model created by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IMHE) at the University of Washington had predicted a peak of 81,766 deaths in an update on Sunday.
Public health experts, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, have previously estimated that as many as 100,000 to 200,000 Americans could die from the novel coronavirus.
Across the U.S., nearly 400,000 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed and 12,911 related deaths reported as of Wednesday morning, based on data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
Different models forecasting the coronavirus pandemic are offering varied predictions, however,.
IMHE, for example, predicts the peak hospital resource use is coming in just a few days, on Sunday, while other models officials have cited dont show the outbreak peaking for months.

So we shut the entire country down, for a slightly-above-average flu season.
Ordinary flu killed 62,000 in 2017.
I understand the thinking that “it would be a lot worse if we had done nothing”. But even so, I think this whole thing looks more and more like an over-reaction.
We put the patient into cardiac arrest to cure a case of the sniffles.
“I understand the thinking that it would be a lot worse if we had done nothing. But even so, I think this whole thing looks more and more like an over-reaction.”
It’s fair to say social distancing is reducing illness and death due to COVID-19. However, how many additional deaths are occurring due to the economic fallout of the shutdown? Sounds like a future PhD dissertation for some graduate student.
This aint the flu bro
“This aint the flu bro”
You’re right, in some years past the flu has killed more.
The “over reaction” is the reason why we don’t have 2.2 million dead people right now and 50 million infected with a virus we know little about. This thing can re-infect, destroy you heart and lungs, causes medical problems for the rest of your life, this aint the flu bro
The real (and only practical) goal ever was to prevent a surge in cases that would overwhelm the health care system. Any other goal was pie-in-the sky.
“The CDC bureaucrats have successfully constructed their Hero Myth that will prevent any nasty investigations into how badly they dropped the ball.”
They had one job. Control diseases.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an epic fail by any organization anywhere, evah.
They’ll say “we didn’t have enough funding”, and get more money.
“So we shut the entire country down, for a slightly-above-average flu season.”
AND...you knew this back when the disease was just starting to spread rapidly, did you? Why didn’t you share it with the President and his team?
Hey, also...can tell me how that sweet little filly “Royal Misery” is going to do in the fifth at Aquaduct?
Translation: The model is garbage.
Thus, the need to pad the numbers to include those suspected to have had WuFlu, and those who die WITH WuFlu.
To top off the scam, Mark Levin has discussed the new CDC coding standard for death by chinese death virus. Health providers need no proof of death by virus. If there is a death and without any validating tests, they “assume” or feel it “contributed to” the death, it is coded as a death BY the chinese death virus. Now that is a misuse or distortion of statistics. Dishonesty writ large.
We’ll alway have this event in American history to point to when the panicked demand that something drastic, expensive, and cripplling be done “because models.”
“AND...you knew this back when the disease was just starting to spread rapidly, did you? Why didnt you share it with the President and his team?”
Wait, don’t we have a CDC?
Costing the US taxpayers Tens of Millions of dollars?
Replete with “experts”?
All making six-figure salaries?
You’re excusing them?
And blaming me?
You “work” for the CDC?
Oh, please.
You are exactly right !
Now, back to work !!!!
As with global warming 'we MUST believe the science!'
Scientists are beyond question and reproach. To doubt or question a scientist is to doubt and question science itself.
We must believe because 'the science' says so.
You don't doubt science, do you?
