Inside an old factory building north of Boise, a few dozen people gathered to hear from Ammon Bundy. The meeting, which appeared to violate orders by Gov. Brad Little of Idaho to avoid group gatherings, was an assertion of what Mr. Bundy said was a constitutional right to peacefully assemble. But Mr. Bundy said he also hoped to create a network of people ready to come to the aid of those facing closure of their businesses or other interference from the government.
If it gets bad enough, and our rights are infringed upon enough, we can physically stand in defense in whatever way we need to, Mr. Bundy told the meeting. But we hope we dont have to get there. In a state with pockets of deep wariness about both big government and mainstream medicine, the sweeping restrictions aimed at containing the spread of the virus have run into outright rebellion in some parts of Idaho, which is facing its own worrying spike in coronavirus cases. The opposition is coming not only from people like Mr. Bundy but also from some state lawmakers and a county sheriff who are calling the governors statewide stay-at-home order an infringement on individual liberties.
Health care providers and others have been horrified at the public calls to countermand social-distancing requirements, warning that failing to take firm measures could overwhelm Idahos small hospitals and put large numbers of people at risk of dying. There are a lot of people that listen to those voices around here, said Dr. Hans Hurt, an emergency doctor at Bonner General Health, a medical center in the town of Sandpoint. Even if its just a small group that wants to exercise their right to assemble, it puts the community at large at such a high risk.

This is a classic case of Figures Lie and Liars Figure. Here are some observations based on the map:

Let's look at the overall Idaho numbers and the Idaho numbers EXCLUDING the Democrat hot-spots:

The per-capita rate of Idaho OUTSIDE THE LIBERAL DEMOCRAT enclaves is less than ONE-SIXTH that of the Democrat counties.
“The Idaho state hotspots are largely Democrat areas.”
The vast majority of hotspots in the nation are craphole blue states and craphole blue cities.
Thank God for Mr Bundy and common sense.
I support Bundy.
Blaine county is showing how elites impact this virus with more cases.
Can’t blame that high % on race or lack of health care.
That applies everywhere else.
Here’s the reporting form in Tucson Arizona if you see a business infraction of COVID restrictions
I think bundy belongs in prison
Nope. In Sun Valley, Aspen and Vail, blame it on extreme liberal wealth.
Blane County has the highest per capita infection rate in the USA right now. The jet setters are fleeing their big cities and have thoroughly infected this one county.
Even in Ada county(Boise) the death rate based on the proven infections is 7/10 of 1%. Do the math.
There are more people that die from car accidents/cancer/heart disease DAILY than Kung Flu.
Plus there are many more people that have it and do not show effects and therefore have never been tested. IF you factor that in the death rate is in the hundreds of a percent.
“Business Infraction Reporting Form”...everybody should report the state government in Phoenix! There isn’t a more “non-essential” business anywhere.
You are entitled to your opinion no matter how uninformed you sound. Fortunately more of us will stand with the patriots than will cavil from the bleachers.

The article, in its zeal to paint all Idahoans as knuckle-dragging Neanderthals, fails to point out some critical things that are not very attractive to the NYT and Democrats. Look at the map below which I grabbed from the Idaho Division of Public Health Idaho COVID-19 Dashboard a couple minutes ago.
This is a classic case of Figures Lie and Liars Figure. Here are some observations based on the map:
Note both the absolute number of cases and deaths in Idaho. They are low.
The Idaho state hotspots are largely Democrat areas.
Blaine County is where Sun Valley is located and it has a HUGE number of private jets flying in with very wealthy skiers from LA, San Fran, Seattle and other Democrat locations. The same hotspot phenomenon was seen in the Aspen / Vail areas a month ago. The wealthy imported COVID on their private jets.
Boise, the State Capitol and heavily Democrat, is in Ada County. Next-door Canyon County is largely a commuting suburb of the State Capitol.
When you exclude the heavily Democrat hot-spot counties, you see that Idaho is a low-COVID state.
Thanks for posting the above. For about 4 weeks, I have been posting that many of our cases of COVID are the elites who fly in chartered planes or own them and use chauffeured vehicles to get to their planes and from their planes to one of their many homes.
LOL...good one. A three hour drive on a good day just to get out of the Boise suburb.
“Apparently the NYT reporter can’t figure out that the whole state of Idaho isn’t a Boise suburb.”
Thanks for making that point. That occurred very quickly to me, too, but I forgot to mention that. You are exactly right.
It seems they bring their Boston - NYC - Philly - Washington DC Eastern Corridor ethos with them, doesn’t it? They believe the WHOLE country revolves around that Eastern Corridor. The author seems to believe the entire state of Idaho is just like Boise and Sun Valley.
The state is becoming like New York State — the south is the “urban,” liberal, and state capitol area while the north is the much more conservative and much more lightly populated. My very first recollections of politics when I was a kid were of my Dad complaining about how the liberal assholes in New York City were bleeding us “upstaters” dry.
The Blaine County infection occurred during the regular Ski Season.
Peeps weren’t fleeing, they were just flying in from all over the world to go skiing. Then things got weird.
Given the current per capita concentration of infection, smart peeps would no longer go there.
We live in a VERY conservative county in eastern Idaho and we reported our first case last week.
For us, we are just happy that cattle apparently don’t transmit the virus!
