Shutdown, not coronavirus, is causing loss of medical personnel
Consertive Review ^ | APRIL 6, 2020 | Daniel Horowitz

Last week, Boston Medical Center announced it was furloughing 700 employees, 10 percent of its workforce. After Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear ordered the suspension of “elective” surgeries, Appalachian Region Healthcare, the largest hospital chain in eastern Kentucky, laid off 500 employees. Nurse anesthetists are being laid off in Pennsylvania and in other states, even though they are critical to intubating COVID-19 patients. Hundreds of health care workers in Huntington, West Virginia, were laid off, even though there are barely any COVID-19 patients in the state’s hospitals.

Family practice physicians and specialists are seeing their practices disintegrate. According to a HealthLandscape and American Academy of Family Physicians report, 60,000 family practices will close or significantly scale back, and 800,000 of their employees will be laid off by June. That is roughly 43 percent of the workforce nationwide in family medical practices.

Remember how subways can remain open with thousands of people cramming into rail cars, but small offices must close.

We’ve barely been touched by the area in our province. About 10 hospitalizations in a province of 750,00 people. The hospital beds are half empty because of the cancellation of elective surgery.

Top down, one size fits all is a FAILURE.

Not unexpectedly though.

Another attempt at Socialism fails quickly.

Take it to the bank.

The most dangerous place in town right now is the Wal-Mart Parking lot before opening, closely followed by the check stands or maybe the toilet paper aisle.

Can’t post due to copyright, but there are at least 12,000 laid off health care workers just in Iowa:

You’re exactly right. I have a gut feeling that even some of the Useful Idiot Democrat voters are catching on. Too much is leaking out.

That’s also what I’m hearing. Layoffs among medical personnel.

No elective surgeries, not so many emergencies since everyone is in lock down.

That was to spare the facilities to make them available for virus patients, but most virus patients simply ride it out at home.

Any loss of employment and income is detrimental, especially when the job losses are artificially contrived. Yet does anyone think an argument can be made that the existing medical workforce was bloated and no longer efficient and effective?

“Top down, one size fits all is a FAILURE.”

So true, yet we still have Gates and a bunch of rats still calling for an even more extreme universal policy. The why will tell us much.

My daughter is a nurse - specializes in surgical area...her hours were cut to 20 a week due to putting the kibosh on elective surgeries...and then she has participated in surgeries where patients are corona positive. She’s looking into hiring on for a high-paying contract to treat corona patients...says if she’s going to be exposed to them she may as well get paid for it.

My sister in California said that Kaiser has shut down several facilities and furloughed a ton of doctors and nurses along with them. Non-essential services, apparently.

most hospitals in Colorado are literally deserted because the Dem gov ordered them to cancel all “elective” procedures and the bulk of hospital personnel therefore have had to be laid off ... i donated to an urgent plea from our local hospital to help these folks out because i’ve gotten amazing care from hospital personnel, so wanted to help out ... and speaking of “elective” procedures, i’ve got a friend who keeps going into V-tach and needs an ablation procedure to stop that and his procedure was cancelled indefinitely ... F-ing asshole governor ... now he’s whining about ventilators ...

One of my best friends is a nurse anesthetist that works for ear, nose, and throat doctors in Manhattan. She was furloughed weeks ago. She has a weekend home in Connecticut where she recently moved a household of furniture before this whole thing happened. It’s made her moving in a lot smoother since she doesn’t have to go back and forth anymore. You would think that Cuomo would insist she be called back out of furlough, but what does he do instead? Asks other states to bring their nurses in. It makes you shake your head.

Instead of laying off these people, why aren’t we using them to conduct tests using the 18,000 Abbott Lab machines that are spread around the USA.

The Abbott Lab machines can conduct a test in 15 minutes, 4 per hour, and 96 per day.

With 18,000 Abbott Lab machines currently in the USA we could test 1,728,000 people per day instead of the paltry 200,000 or so that are being tested right now.

This is an incredible CF. Here we are furloughing medical personnel due to a medical emergency.

Elective medical procedures are deferred to free up hospital space for covid patients. So doctors, nurses, etc associated with these non-covid related medical procedures are temporarily not needed.

This is a classic case why the government should not run health care. Not saying government should have done nothing for covid-19 but that there are unintended consequences of top-down actions.

When we get back to normal — and we will (sort of) — there will be a glut of these backlogged medical procedures. You will get in line for your procedure. By then perhaps another wave of covid-19 starts hitting.

Damned skippy. Our local hospital has furloughed a LOT of staff.

The hospital appears at times to be deserted. Parking lot half full, ER lot reserved for “respiratory patients” almost devoid of cars.

Thank you, Governor. /s

“The why will tell us much”.

The why is because they are trying to draw this out as long as possible to do as much harm as possible to the economy and Donald Trump. Dr. Fauci is a perfect example of that. He is deep state to the core.
