A country learns about itself in a crisis, and one revelation in the coronavirus emergency is that we cant make our own penicillin.
The first patient successfully treated with the antibiotic was a woman suffering from sepsis in a Connecticut hospital in 1942. Her treatment took up half the countrys supply. Yet in short order we figured out how to mass produce the medicine, saving the lives of countless soldiers in World War II. Once, factories throughout the country made the stuff.
But that was a long time ago. The last US plant to make penicillin, a Bristol-Myers Squibb operation in Syracuse, shuttered in 2004.

Come on, Rich...say it! Say TRUMP WAS RIGHT!
or our technology
America must never again rely on China.
There better
Good luck with that. There were tens of millions of voices
ignored on the road to China’s feet.
No one will listen now either. They’re too smart for us.
Or any other country.
It will awaken the voters about the danger of chinee dependence.
I sure hope so. When Great Depression II sets in in the coming months, the Democrats will try to blame it on Trump.
Getting out of China has been a repeated issue with Trump everyone knows that as they called him a racist NO WAY Dems can blame Trump and get away with it ONLY the entirely STUPID will believe this now how many people in the country are entirely stupid maybe 1/3!!!
We can’t even make our own aspirin or vitamin C
Aaaah, the benefits of slave labor.
Especially for the top executives.
America should force the Communist Chinese back to 1971. Sell all Communist Chinese property in the US and distribute it to Americans. Void the $1 trillion or whatever treasuries the Communists own. Allow Americans en-masse to sue the Communist Chinese government here, stripping Communist China of sovereign immunity. Jail and deport all Communist Chinese here. Kill any Communist Chinese caught supporting Beijing here. Blockade of all shipping in and out of Communist China. A tactical nuke on the 3 Gorges Dam would be nice. Its war. We should treat it as such.
China should pay for the damage in tariffs. A new Iphone should cost around $10,000 - $12,000.
Nope. Hopefully Tim Cuck, I mean Cook, wakes up and pulls up all manufacturing from Communist China. But the only pulling out Tim
does is with his bathhouse buddy Xi Jinping.
(Tim Cook has repeatedly praised Communist China, saying Apple must make everything in Communist China, as the Communist Chinese are the only ones capable of making the iPhone
True on reliance for medical supplies, but it won’t stop there. Much more decoupling is needed than that.
Exactly. Rich Lowry... one of the biggest Never Trumpers on the planet.
So according to the article, the epidemic is a threat.
Little known fact: in the early 40s Penicillin was so precious they retrieved it from the urine of patients who had been treated. Yup.
We need to “onshore” any critical industries, in the event of war. A war we do not want, but will likely be with China. To allow the Chinese to hold a virtual “lock” on critical industries, is criminally negligent.
It is war. Winnie the Flu even called it that back in early January. His top generals in the PLA have called for ethnic specific bioweapons back in 2015 to destroy America.
According to some reports, Patient Zero was a female PLA researcher in Wuhan who was sprayed in the face with the blood of a test animal, and was kept at the lab for treatment. One of her nurses went to get food at the market just down the street, and thats how it was introduced there.
We need to completely decouple from China, ASAP. Then deny any entry of Chinese products into the US permanently.
Broken rules have consequences Xi Jinping. You should have stayed in Xiamen as the mayor.
