151 miles completed, 199 miles under construction, 403 miles in pre-construction

The Chinese are good at building walls. Just sayin’...
Trump quietly builds his wall while democrats continue to call Trump names.
All these unemployed people, thanks to the Coronavirus that open borders made even more prevalent in our country. It would be nice if we could put a few hundred thousand of them to work on building the wall faster. I’d love to see another 500-plus miles completed by Election Day (or even that plus 700 miles of a second barrier to stop those who do scale the first).
The number of foreigners arrested for illegally entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, and along the coasts have dropped to almost nothing in the past week as the U.S. became the world leader in confirmed cases, according to Department of Homeland Security officials.
Only 79 people were encountered Sunday by Border Patrol agents nationwide after they had attempted to enter the country between ports of entry. If that rate continued over the course of a month, it would make for fewer than 2,500 apprehensions, a drop in the bucket compared to the 30,000 arrests that agents made just on the southern border in February and 132,000 at the peak of the border crisis last May.
Border arrests reflect the number of people attempting to cross.
Its like next to nothing. For almost a week, their apprehensions have been under 150, said a high-ranking border official who was not authorized to speak. This is what happened on 9/11 on steroids. Mexico has locked down a lot of their country
and then they [migrants] think if they come to the U.S., theyre going to catch the virus.
Good, we need it, we were out in the desert yesterday and saw 4 sets of tracks about 3 days old, 3 men and a woman, so at least 4 got by BP lately. God-willing, they got them further up the trail.
Is there a time-phased chart of this progress, with a projection perhaps?

```
They are installed right after the tower-mounted, remote-controlled GAU9As with overlapping fields of fire.
“at least 4 got by BP lately. God-willing, they got them further up the trail.”
Along with the (now) full scale deployment of barrier, there is an equally dramatic/historic full scale deployment of technology occurring.
Mobile Surveillance Systems, Unmanned Ground Sensors, and assorted aerial assets (like drones and blimps), among others; are creating wide zones of intense monitoring and tracking ability. The “Wall System” is not just a fence to be hopped - it is also a newly created band of many layers of alarms and sensors; coupled with increased response capability.
In rural areas, surveillance stares miles into Mexico, and can cover tens of miles into the USA.
Dramatic improvements in detection and tracking are going to make a mighty contribution to the pretty rapid transformation in border control, now underway in earnest - whether there is barrier in that area or not.
We are looking at transformative effects this year, and approaching full operational control toward the end of next year.
I know, they walked less than a mile from a tethered blimp. They are also clever and know when they take it down because of weather.
“Is there a time-phased chart of this progress, with a projection perhaps?”
I haven’t seen one, but it would be impressive.
There was a long slow start, while careful planning and analysis was conducted. 2017 and 2018 combined saw very little wall actually built - like a mile per month on average.
Early in 2019 (Feb), after the Comprehensive Plan for Full Operational Control of the Southern Border was finally accepted by Congress (Dec 2018), the President declared a National Emergency, and freed up the funds required for full scale deployment. Because of the long lead time with Federal Contracting, the first of that money did not break ground until August, and most of it has not yet started construction.
The money tends to come about 1/3 to 1/2 way through the fiscal year, because of the political dogfight, and then contracting lead time runs from 3 to 12 months. Given those kinds of delays, the rough amounts of money that have been available for the wall have been something on the order of:
FY2017 .4 billion
FY2018 1.4 billion
FY2019 7.5 billion
FY2020 8.8 billion
With the lag time to get contracts awarded, well over 11 billion remains to get onto contract this year.
So the rapid ramp up is going to continue to keep accelerating.
It is easy to see when the Aerostat is down, but other systems are not susceptible to weather, are totally unseen, or both.
The beauty of having multiple types of sensors and alarms, is that they cover the gaps in each other’s mission profiles.
Several overlapping fixed systems can be augmented by several types of mobile systems, to respond overnight to any change in smuggler’s routes, and establish ambushes far in from the border, at collection points or bottlenecks.
After the new package (”Wall System”) gets installed and activated, it is a whole new ball game.
The Wall system that is going in, is not designed to just give some undefined improvement - it is designed to achieve full operational control of that segment.
As the President said a few days ago, so far, it seems to be working even better than than was expected.
I’d guess with those numbers we are also getting almost all of them. Border Patrol won’t be so overwhelmed that they can’t chase those criminals down. This is a big win for America (costly, but at least there is a positive).
has anyone heard of any projected food shortages this year, along with potential or actual pressure or movement towards allowing migrant farm workers to travel from central america to the usa to help with crop harvesting this year? (one symptom to watch for would be a sharp rise in food prices)
Possibly, there has been dumping of milk and ploughing under of veggies. Farmers that were supplying schools and restaurants.
One article I read stated that approximately half of food is processed for restaurants etc. and the other 50% for grocery stores. Some small farmers may go out of business.
Our Governor has signed an exemption to allow restaurants to sell their supplies directly to the public - just like a grocery would. People call and place the order, and they bring it out to you when you get to the parking lot.
The dairy association in our state has also sent a request that the supermarkets should not impose limits on purchase of milk and dairy. This limit combined with the shut down of schools and restaurants has been harmful to the dairy business.
They swear that there will be no shortage and hence no need for the grocery to limit purchases.
World wide is likely an issue due to the large hordes of locusts devouring everything in sight.
I figure food prices will be increasing for one reason or another, so when stuff is on sale, buy what you need and buy extra for the pantry.
