Well, in all fairness the title of the article does begin with the word “RUMOR.”
That being said, I'll pray for Boris, as well as anyone affected, regardless of politics.
Speaking of ventilators, someone posted that nowadays they sometimes put people in a prone position while on a vent. Reminded me of an old article, “Down with the good lung.” Fascinating. I wonder if they still have any of the old Stryker frames. It could make management of these folks a lot easier on the staff.
So that must be why they kept showing video from Italy with people in the ICU face down. I couldn’t figure out what they were doing.

AV mismatching has long been understood in “the damaged lung”. The parts of the lung that are being ventilated don’t match the parts that are being perfused. So you can have a decent cardiac output AND be ventilating the lung, but it still ain’t working. By the time you get to that point it is generally about over because the cardiac output really isn’t all that good and the vascular resistance is so low the circulation is collapsing, nothing is pushing the blood through the capillaries. We all knew “down with the good lung” but I never saw it done.
I hadn’t seen that yet. Funny. I wondered at the time when we saw the movie, if people recognized what that sound was. As a Resident you have to do stretches “in the ICU”. They have a “call room” in there for you to nap, if you can. You can still hear the ventilators chugging in there. Over the weeks you get to where you can “hear” a problem with a ventilator. Eventually you get to where when you hear that it wakes you up.
