RE: Reporter asks ‘you are using only 16,000 beds, and you said you would need at least 110,000.’ As Tucker discussed Friday night, hospitalization rates nationwide are only about 15-20% of what the models predicted.

OK, what was Gov. Cuomo’s response to this obviously reasonable question?

IF the figures cited by this reporter are incorrect, Cuomo should be telling him he’s wrong and citing his own sources.

IF the figures cited by this reporter are incorrect, the only reasonable answer from Cuomo would have to be: “Better be ridiculously safe than sorry.” ( in other words, we are expecting 7 times more beds than your current figures in the future ).

That's an interesting article. I had the flu in early Jan. My first symptoms were Dec 30th. In addition to the list in the article I had the loss of smell and taste. Everything tasted bland and terrible at the same time. I lost weight and went to the store to buy salty chips, and while the salt sort of tasted ok, the chip was terrible afterwards.

I still believe I had the flu. But articles like that make me wonder.

I don’t know where you got your data, but I live in Rochester NY and have been plotting the state and county (Monroe) for several days using the Johns Hopkins data. Our county has 3498 cases and 83 deaths with a death rate of 2.37 percent. Our “total cases” plot looks like a mini version of the state and has not yet flattened.

According to this website, there are already 600 deaths recorded in NYC today.

Could be a lagging indicator if cases are indeed down. Let's hope so.

I work in NYC and haven't been there since 3/13. Though I'm getting my work done from home, I can't wait to get back to the office and a normal routine!

Cuomo was asked about taking things from other areas of the state and bringing them to NYC. He went on and on about shifting supplies as they are needed in different parts of the state: "Our ethos is We'll help one another." "...shifting gowns, shifting masks, ... "

Somehow this getting things to the places where they are most needed was not ok for President Trump to say about the federal stockpile.

Maybe Cuomo is pretty sure that all the stuff he has brought to NYC won't be needed there. If they are only using 16,000 of the 140,000 then 110,000 beds that they thought would be needed, wouldn't that have a proportional lessening of the need for PPE?

We shall see.

You might want to suspend judgment until the peak passes. ALL of the predictions are based on MODELS. The statistician, George Box, wrote that “All models are wrong but some are useful.” Gov Coumo has been honest about the use and uncertainty of models. Prudent leaders prepare for the worst and hope for the best. We will know within 1-2 weeks when we have crossed the peak.

"Hey, Cuomo just said that NY may be IS at apex of cases"

So let’s go outside and play!

While I appreciate Cuomo’s optimism regarding the light at end of tunnel, he still needs to be careful what he tells people with cabin fever imo.

A stunner that he said it. But not really a stunner because we are dealing with a group of terminally deceitful people.

Maybe he was trying to get out in front of the bad news that fewer that predicted were hospitalized.

From the very start, when Cuomo was calling for a huge number of ventilators, I thought something was up. I thought he was laying a baseline to blame Trump later when the supply didn't meet demand. Then, I found out about the meeting and the state govt. decision to "invest" in trendy solar energy, and not prepare for a pandemic, disregarding the warnings from the meeting.

I am not at all impressed with either Cuomo. They are dense and slimy.

The virus has had plenty to time to migrate all over the country....why is upstate NY different ? It’s not. In fact, it’s more susceptible because of proximity.

The numbers are indeed a fraud. bashing device. Navy mercy ships remain empty because predictions were wrong, which could mean panic over ventilators was overblown too.

Models were wrong, inflated to warn of worst case, but quickly became a convenient DjT-bashing device.

Prudent leaders also balance health risk vs. economic catastrophe...thus far we are failing that test. I recognize it is based on a moving target, but it’s time to start re-evaluating this in some, if not most areas.

Cuomo doesn’t care about new yorkers all he cared about was bashing the president because the president wasn’t going to give 50 ,000 ventilators that he doesn’t even need.

He hasn’t even used up the ones he has on hand yet

PING

Ping to Cuomo press conference.

Reporter asks ‘you are using only 16,000 beds, and you said you would need at least 110,000.’
As Tucker discussed Friday night, hospitalization rates nationwide are only about 15-20% of what the models predicted.
