There are no subways in NJ. They are in NYC.

Besides the subway (actually the PATH which connects NYC to NJ), I think the huge Asian population in Bergen County plays a big role. The county added Korean to its official languages a couple of years ago; many Asians living along the NJ side of the Hudson River work in NYC. The George Washington Bridge connects Bergen County to NYC, but the trains don’t (you have to go further south into Hudson County NJ for that).
Bergen County is the epicenter of infection in NJ, and the hardest-hit towns seem to be along Route 80 (which ends at the GW bridge).
