Kentucky governor vetoes voter ID bill, calling it the 'wrong move'

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) on Friday vetoed a bill mandating residents of the state show a government-issued form of identification before voting.

In his veto message, Beshear hammered Republicans for trying to push legislation that would “create an obstacle” to voting and tackle a “problem that does not exist,” referring to GOP-fueled claims of voter fraud.

“I am vetoing Senate Bill 2 because the provisions of the law would create an obstacle to the ability of Kentuckians to exercise their right to vote, resulting in fewer people voting and undermining our democracy. Furthermore, no documented evidence of recent voter fraud in the form of impersonation in Kentucky has been presented,” Beshear, Kentucky’s former attorney general, said.

Beshear went on to note that the legislation could put Kentuckians in harm’s way during the coronavirus crisis by forcing them to leave their homes to obtain the needed identification.

However, Beshear’s veto could be overridden since the bill was passed by supermajorities in both chambers of the state legislature.

The bill creates no obstacle to voting but it would add an obstacle to voter fraud.

With the failure of the last ditch plan to blame Coronavirus pandemic on Trump, the only thing left is voter fraud. Democrat governors have to do their bit to help out in the cause.

If I bring in a bag of aluminum cans to the scrapper I can’t get my four bucks unless I show an ID.

But go ahead and vote early and often, no problem.

Perhaps by 'recent' the lying @hole meant 'since this morning' ?

Anyone notice that it's invariably (D)ommunists who oppose Voter ID ?

Coinkydink, shirley ?

Our country is being stolen by things like “vote harvesting”, early voting and mail in ballots.

More and more voter fraud.

You need a picture ID for virtually everything now, so what valid excuse is there not to have ID for voting???

Funny that he was just elected by a razor thin margain of questionable votes. And when his old and dear friend Kentucky Secretary of State Allison Lundergan Grimes was still heading up the oversight of elections.
Allison whose father Jerry Lundergan a former Billy Jeff Clinton bundler was recently convicted in Ky of campaign finance fraud in her last election.
Voter fraud Is rampant in Ky and it’s always been swept under the rug by the Dems.
Its really funny that these Dem voters who will be so put out by having to obtain ID seem to have no problem getting their prescriptions.

Thank goodness that lousy Republican Governor lost they said...

We have Voter ID in MS and I’m sure we have a lot more Blacks living here than in Kentucky. They don’t seem to be impacted by having to show ID at the Polls.

It does look like we have less Illegal Invaders living here than in Kentucky though. Hmmmmmm...

Maintaining the integrity of the voting process is not a concern of Democrats. Kentucky, you chose poorly.

Good Citizens of Kentucky.

You are so very much better than this free-and-fair-vote-hating scoundrel.

GOP needs a strong, likable, and telegenic candidate for KY gov in 2023.
