A New York doctor hopes to help his elderly COVID-19 patients with a treatment plan inspired by the success tentatively being reported with hydroxychloroquine — and which he says shows promising results.

Dr. Mohammud Alam, an infectious disease specialist affiliated with Plainview Hospital, said 81 percent of infected covid patients he treated at three Long Island nursing homes recovered from the contagion.

81% recovered? That’s actually terrible! I hope the others are on their way to recovery.

We don’t know what the stats were there . Even if we did they are not a control group unless the were in similar health of a similar socioeconomic group with similar access to health care. Then there are factors of climate, urban vs rural and pollution levels along with his diet varies between east and west coast....

I’m 72 y.o., ischemic heart disease & mild diabetic.

If I contract COVID-19, I’ll take the HydroxyChloroquine + Zpak. If I survive, I’ll write you an “after-action” anecdotal report.

BTW, I took Chloroquine for both prophylaxis and treatment of Malaria off and on for 20 years, beginning 52 years ago. Later migrated to Cipro, etc.

Other than making me short, fat, old & grumpy, the chloroquine caused no ill effects.

I just went through a round of cipro and flagyl for another issue. They were tough on my system and one caused anxiety, but I guess I would take them again if I had to.

So what about if they’re dying? Then surely the risk is worth it if they’ll surely die without?

as I said we are using the medications now. No one is withholding medication pending study results. But the studies still have to be done to be sure we are actually helping

Cipro can be bad stuff:

Risk of serious side effects: Cipro and other fluoroquinolone antibiotics can cause serious side effects that may not be reversible.

These include swollen or ruptured tendons, nerve damage, and central nervous system side effects such as anxiety, confusion, tremors, and others. Cipro should be stopped if any of these side effects occur.

Due to the risk of these problems, Cipro should only be used to treat bronchitis, urinary tract infections, and sinusitis when there are no other treatment options.

Risk of use with myasthenia gravis: Cipro can cause or worsen muscle weakness in people with myasthenia gravis. People with this condition should not take Cipro.

Cipro was the drug used for the troops in the Middle East for bio weapons during Gulf War you could not get a script for Cipro because it was saved for the troops!!

I didn't know that. Thanks. Mrs. RWA had it for an infection. I'm glad she wasn't on it for long.
