TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT) It has been four weeks since the first positive case of the coronavirus hit Kansas. Now, as more test kits become available, the state is looking to test more people.
On Friday, Kansas Department of Health and Environment Secretary Lee Norman said that the state would be receiving hundreds of new test kits that take just 45 minutes to get results. With the new kits the state hopes to not only continue testing individuals with obvious symptoms, but also people who are seemingly healthy.
Secretary Norman says that young people are the most common ones spreading the virus to others. This is because young people often show little to no symptoms of the coronavirus. They dont realize they are sick, so they continue to go to work or leave their home.
Young people are less likely to follow rules and feel vulnerable. Its the older folks and people with other kinds of immune deficiencies understand theyre at risk and young people dont necessarily feel theyre at risk, explained Secretary Norman.
He says by testing these people, they are able to quarantine if their results are positive, rather than continue to, unknowingly, spread the virus.
Secretary Norman says these population tests would begin in counties that are seeing large outbreaks of the virus. He says once the testing begins, it would likely only take a week to get through the entire process in the county.

Meanwhile FEMA is readying 8 weeks of “non congregate housing” for the unlucky ones....the asymptomatic positives.
Sad to think that Kansas may be the ark from which a new civilization springs.
The asymptomatic carriers need to be quarantined In the end, thats the only way we can reopen the country
What happened to the Abbot Labs five minute test?
Oh right, still stuck in FDA approvals. They can’t make them overnight either.
The only way to have successfully manged this mess was by cells responsible to do the same things all across the country. Oh yeah, CDC and FDA didn’t have a plan for that so we just left it to the states to randomly do what the governors thought best. Governors like the fool in Georgia who didn’t even know about asymptomatic spread. Or our own Stitt who seems to do nothing at all but persecute the Indians to get a piece of the casino action.
Kansas, the center of the new universe? Oh my.
If they have a live case, they get quarantined. Thats the only way to let the rest of us out of quarantine. Are you happy living in house arrest, for god knows how many more months?
Look at “Cases by Age Range.” It’s the only record of its type that I’ve found. Look at the numbers of patients in their 20s. A day or two ago, a doctor involved in making policy in that state was interviewed and said that only hospital patients are being tested now. Apparently, they’re trying to avoid panicking young workers or their families.

Kansas has 644 cases, 18 deaths as of 4-4-20 AM.
With testing, the number of cases will skyrocket, making it the new ‘crisis center’ the media can focus on.
Would help if they had some sort of mass transit system people could crowd into.
