It’s too easy to dip one’s toe into that damn sucking swamp when one works in the wet waters of power. It’s too damn attractive to exercise one’s power corruptly. “Well, we’re not supposed to reveal this information, but I’ll make an exception for you... just this once.“ Once one does, they’ve got ya! “Oh, do you happen to recall that time you did a favor for good ol’ Soandso? Well, if you don’t do the same for me, I will tell your boss about what Soandso did for you!” . . . and now they’re ankle deep. Pretty soon, the swamp has flowed over the top of their head and they’re willing to do anything.
