California Had 2,400 Mobile Ventilators, Democrats Got Rid of Them
Front Page Magazine ^ | Sun Mar 29, 2020 | Daniel Greenfield

California has lots of money to shovel into its municipal unions and social services complex. But it just wouldn't pay for those ventilators and masks.

They were ready to roll whenever disaster struck California: three 200-bed mobile hospitals that could be deployed to the scene of a crisis on flatbed trucks and provide advanced medical care to the injured and sick within 72 hours.

Each hospital would be the size of a football field, with a surgery ward, intensive care unit and X-ray equipment. Medical response teams would also have access to a massive stockpile of emergency supplies: 50 million N95 respirators, 2,400 portable ventilators and kits to set up 21,000 additional patient beds wherever they were needed.

In 2006, citing the threat of avian flu, then-Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced the state would invest hundreds of millions of dollars in a powerful set of medical weapons to deploy in the case of large-scale emergencies and natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires and pandemics.

The state, flush with tax revenue, soon sank more than $200 million into the mobile hospital program and a related Health Surge Capacity Initiative to stockpile medicines and medical gear for use in outbreaks of infectious disease, according to former emergency management officials and state budget records.

And then the Democrats took over.

There are none so blind as those who refuse to see.

The liberals will never admit that they blew it.

If only President Bush had allowed Negin to use the school buses.

I think the explanation at the time was that the buses did not have toilets on them. So, once an hour they stop at a fast food restaurant or a truck stop and let people out who need to use a restroom. But that never occurred to the people in charge.

From what I been told is that this virus doesn’t like higher temperatures and sunshine,

We’re wealthy enough to keep the virus cool, well-shaded, and blow it around so it gets well-circulated.

More seriously, it should already be starting to have that effect if it is going to. It appears that it isn’t heavily striking most hot-weather countries so far.

Other issues were having a detailed emergency-response plan with dedicated meet points, supply points, and coordination centers, and then FEMA showed up and there was no one there because NO ignored the plan and set up relief points on the fly; the governor not allowing any pre-staging, nor immediate help from neighboring federally-activated national guard units; and evacuating the bus-drivers.

I tend to suspect the same thing.

I also think that New York City’s PR//statistical collection department may buy into the theory that when it comes to failure, go big or go home. One might as well get as much sympathy as possible.

When one collects stats, there tends to be an incentive to put a finger on the scale one way or the other depending on what one thinks one will get as a result of the outcome of the statistics.

The Heisenberg principle rules.

No problem. They’ll just try to steal them from other places, as Cuomo is trying to do in New York.

At the Coronavirus Task Force briefings, Trump needs to use visuals (like charts, etc) to teach the media. They never took civics or US history - apparently.

I’ve noted that Trump teaches a lot already, but media are dumb and need those visuals.

"California, so far, is in great shape"

I see the Kal. State and LA County update daily. It's getting less and less GREAT by the day.

I’ve used the Nagin/Blanco example when the left has gone after Trump for many “disasters”, particularly Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. To their great disappointment, they found out that Trump isn’t Bush, and won’t sit back and let people blame him for their failures. Every single bad thing that appears on America’s horizon, the left gets excited that finally, THIS will be Trump’s Katrina! It absolutely drives them mad that it never works.

California agencies are having a big problem with corruption and you can go to their Department of Finance site and read about the pilfering of millions of dollars by near unaccountable bureaucratic elites.
