A cable news correspondent who has been barred from White House briefings by a journalists organization said Thursday she had been explicitly invited by President Trumps press secretary, Stephanie Grisham, and plans to continue covering the daily sessions.
Chanel Rion, who works for the Trump-friendly One America News Network, made the remarks on the air Thursday amid a standoff with the White House Correspondents Association over her repeated appearances in the small briefing room on days when it was not her organizations turn to attend. Hours later, she showed up to the briefing for the third consecutive day.
Rion said Grisham had signed off on her presence, despite a strict seat rotation established during the coronavirus crisis to thin the usual crowd and keep reporters and officials including Trump and Vice President Mike Pence at a safe distance from one another.
Her comments suggest that top White House officials, including Trump himself, may have granted special approval to OANN. Its unlikely that Grisham would have approved such an extraordinary breach of the access rules without Trumps knowledge or assent.

Interesting that CNN carried today's live briefing, but Fox News cut it off for a pre-recorded (NOT live) "Coronavirus Town Hall with Martha MacCallum". Ridiculous!
Thank goodness for C-SPAN... I watched the rest of the briefing there.
Melania should loan her that coat to wear to the briefings
brilliant maneuver on the part of the Trump Administration: shows that THEY are in charge of the press conference attendance, NOT the white house correspondents association ...
would be hilarious if those fools running the WHCA tried to sue President Trump about about this ... they probably won’t though, for fear President Trump would start holding the pressers outdoors in the rain with tents for Trump’s people but none for the “reporters”, plus a few helicopters spooling up in the background just for good measure ...
Ultimate. Not penultimate.
I’d like to know how a journalist organization has the right to ban anyone from The White House? They’ve overrated their own importance. Pompous asses. They need to get over themselves.
The Trump administration controls the White House and press briefings - the MSM bozos don’t get to decide who’s allowed to attend.
Naughty girl!
She probably won’t be invited to the WHCA’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner - the one that President Trump boycotts.
The one that won’t be held this year because of the coronavirus.
The one where they pat themselves on the back and no-one in flyover country gives a Sciff about.
When Trump barred Acosta from the press room, a POS obummer judge ruled that the WH could not bar any reporter from his own press conferences.
Now the WHCA believes that they are in charge and can bar any reporter they want.
Too bad you pimples on the ass of time. Your judge already ruled against doing that and Trump just showed you who makes the decisions.
Aren’t there rules?
There, fixed it.
This has of late been my preferred solution.
“Trump friendly
They misspelled “Truth”
Not guilty!
That is an excellent question.
The rule should be that if your news organization is not going to air the briefing live, you can watch the you tube of it and report on it from that.
Was she the one that looked to be standing off to the side who got called on a few times?
Now, THAT’s what I’ve been waiting for. Go Chanel!!!
Thanks.
Trump: You ask good questions.
