BILLINGS, Mont. -- Major construction projects moving forward along the U.S. borders with Canada and Mexico are raising fears that the coronavirus could race through temporary camps and workers could spread it to nearby rural communities that would not be able to handle an outbreak.
Despite a clampdown on peoples movements in much of the country, groups of workers travel every day from camps in New Mexico to build President Donald Trumps border wall.
Along the northern border, a Canadian company says it will start work this month on the disputed Keystone XL oil pipeline, which could bring thousands of workers to rural communities in Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska.
Residents, tribal leaders and state officials have warned that the influx of outsiders could make problems worse in rural areas with little or no medical infrastructure capable of dealing with a surge of infections. Both the border wall and pipeline are exempt from stay-at-home restrictions intended to reduce the spread of the virus.
Faith Spotted Eagle, an environmental activist and member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe in South Dakota, said shes reminded of her grandmothers stories about the tribes struggles to survive small pox and the Spanish flu.

I’ll post a separate story, about how cartel violence (in addition to the disease threat) is making the urgent need for effective border control all the more urgent.
I’m having a bunch of guys put up a sheet metal building. I’m not the least bit worried. But then, I’m not a precious snowflake.

Faith Spotted Eagle
AssPress up to their usual tricks, trying to stop any border security or pipelines
Now their excuse is building the walls and pipelines might spread coronavirus
There’s always an excuse ... these people reek of desperation
But caravans of 3rd world migrants pouring over the border wouldn't be a problem.
It took 3 people to write this stupid article.
The worst BS contest between AP and Reuters is going into extra innings.
Construction workers are continuing their work on replacing a bridge right next to where I live (as Premier Ford did not close down construction sites). So I fail to understand why this is a story for AP.
Oh come on. It’s a blatant attempt to persuade soccer moms to call for stopping the border wall construction.
More anti-barrier stuff.
The Ass ociated Press. Nuff said?
