An ABC News investigation offers sobering insight into how COVID-19 has spread and penetrated so broadly, so deeply and so quickly in the United States.
Travel data of passengers arriving in the United States from China during the critical period in December, January and February, when the disease took hold in that country, shows a stunning 759,493 people entered the U.S.
"This is an astonishing number in a short period of time, illustrating how globalized our world has become. Just as people can hop continents with amazing ease, the infections they carry can too," said Dr. Vinayak Kumar, an internal medicine resident at the Mayo Clinic and a contributor to the ABC News Medical Unit.
While the majority of the travelers likely went to major population centers like New York, Seattle or Los Angeles, with so many arriving, any of the hundreds of thousands could have gone anywhere in the U.S.
Researchers from Johns Hopkins University said the outbreak could have started as far back as November, and that there may have been hundreds of cases in Wuhan by early December.
ABC News examined data from December, January and February on travelers entering the U.S. from eight of the hardest-hit countries: 343,402 arrived from Italy, 418,848 from Spain and about 1.9 million more came from Britain.
Combined with those from China, that's more than 3.4 million people from just four countries -- nearly half, about 1.5 million, Americans returning home. Travel from Italy and Spain wasn't shut down until March 13, with U.K. arrivals restricted a few days later.
Among the millions of travelers likely were a number of biological ticking time bombs, passengers who'd later infect others at a rate at least double that of the typical flu carrier.

Looks like someone at ABC read Victor Davis Hanson’s article yesterday about how likely it is that Mexican Beer Virus has been circulating in Kali for 3-4 months.
Seems the MSM was focused on something else at that very time. Now what was it?
Before Coronavirus, I’d never even heard of Wuhan. Once cases started appearing in the USA, I would constantly hear that the person in question “had just returned from the Wuhan province”. Apparently there are tons of Chinese people in the USA who go back and forth to Wuhan all the frikkin’ time.
Most all off then flew into airports in California, Washington State and New York and the Democratic governors of those states did nothing to stop those international flights.

It’s a huge city, and back then you could fly to China from US hubs for under $500 round trip (including bags, meals, and beer/wine). Made sense that people did just that. What didn’t make sense is that no one in power seemed to know that was going on, or they didn’t think that people with non-slanty eyes could get the virus. They were wrong.
I think later antibody studies and Covid-19 case studies targeting Southern California will find it entered there before January 1, 2020.
My family and friends there are just waiting until they can get tests that would show the flu-like symptoms they had, starting back as early as December, were actually Covid-19 that they had and got over with mostly mild symptoms, except for two that were severe but not critical, not needing hospitalization.

Not to defend our dim governors of Washington and California, but they were attempting to honor Trump’s Chinese nationals travel ban of January 27.
But our wonderful neighbors in Vancouver, BC did not ban travel so Chinese travelers flew in to Vancouver and drove into Washington state.
I was working on a job which involved Chinese nationals and the last one of them who was allowed to fly into Washington state flew in on January 24. After that no travel visas were issued to the ones scheduled to arrive in February and March.
And when Trump did invoke the Travel ban they called him a racist. In fact if memory serves a Judge blocked the order and some Iranians got into NY during appeal.

The Chinese travel ban held up better on the west coast than on the east coast. There was virtually no ban against Iranian travel which brought the first case to New York which as we all know has by far the most deaths.
Trump tried to ban Iranians but some Odumbo judge struck it down.
China Southern flew several non-stop flights a week directly between Wuhan and JFK, LAX and SFO.
Under the cover of a presidential impeachment the Chinese virus was snuck into the the USofA to begin its assault
I was surprised at the back-and-forth traffic between places as far apart as China and the USA. But they make all our goods, so what did I expect?
This is ABC "news" trying to spread the blame from China to Italy, Spain and the UK.
