The Treasury announced late Wednesday that Social Security beneficiaries who typically do not file a tax return will automatically get the $1,200 payment.
The announcement is a reversal from earlier in the week when the Internal Revenue Service said everyone would need to file some sort of tax return in order to qualify for the payments. Democrats and some Republicans criticized the IRS for requiring so many extra hurdles for this vulnerable population to get aid when the government already has their information on file.
The reversal came as the Trump administration tries to rapidly get stimulus payments out to Americans in the face of the quickest economic decline in modern history.
Social Security recipients who are not typically required to file a tax return need to take no action, and will receive their payment directly to their bank account, said Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin.

They didn’t reduce her Social Security check value, the full amount is still deposited into her account every month. They just limit how much the nursing home can charge her, which is equal to all it minus $40. There’s no way that amount even comes close to the cost of her care. The nursing home gets money to make up the difference from Medicaid.
Basically, they take everything. They can even take her house but hers is valued so low that they probably won’t fool with it.
Why are unemployed people getting a check when we already have a unemployment insurance program in place that will be enhanced by as much as $600 a week, not to mention food stamps etc.
Excellent post !
Are these the same true conservatives who before all of this were justifying Trumps budget with a $1.3 trillion deficit he was sending to congress? Yeah. Thought so.
This all sounds like FAKE news to me.....I will believe it when I see it.....and then I will send it back to the treasure department.....or maybe buy toilet paper or a hamburger... folks better start buying Gold and Silver or something like that.
>>>If your mom already gets a Social Security check, why would she need an additional $1200?<<<
So she can Tip the Delivery Drivers from the Grocery Store, McDonalds, Pizza Hut and the Pharmacy?
Im referring to more than SS folks tho.
I wonder how many of his SS#s the zer0 is going to try to collect on ?
I agree, this is a relief package, not a stimulus package.
While living on SS or government aid may be difficult, the China Flu has not caused that. I think the individual payouts should be limited to people that are directly financially harmed by the shutting down of the economy, including those who qualify for unemployment (including self-employed that may qualify under the new rules).
