Cuz SS is not taxable income....though some may be if you’re still working.
It certainly is unless the amount received qualifies as such. Mine does not.
some states tax SS and retirement $$
Cuz SS is not taxable income.
= = =
It is.
Some small part if it is not.
SS is considered taxable income if you make over 18k or so a year. They changed the laws a while back to make it so.
Some of my social security is taxable. I have to do the worksheet each year to figure out how much that is. Between that and my pension, I pay over $8,000 in taxes each year. I get a little back at the end of the year but that’s only because they take out more than they need to. I don’t have any deductions, or any other claims to make on my tax return. It’s just me. Up until the last tax cut, I was lucky if I got $600 back at the end of the year.

I haven’t worked since I retired 20 years ago but have had to file every year because I have income other than S.S. income and they do tax part of my S.S. income.
I have a 22 year old dependent daughter who lives with me and she has no income. I claim her on my taxes.
My question for anybody to answer is; will she receive the $1200 as an adult, the $600 as a dependent child, or anything at all.
My wife passed away Oct.27, 2018 I will be filing 2019 tax return as head of household, a first ever for since I filed jointly with my wife and wound up owing less than $150 usually. I’m more than a little concerned that I’m going to get slammed by the IRS this time.
