I remember walking out of Star Wars when I was 8 and for some reason on the way home I thought about being 32 in the year 2000 and what my life would be like.

I have NO IDEA why I remember that or why it was then that i thought it.

Needless to say what i pictured was better than the eventual outcome :)

I’ve been guilty of it and realized it today and am reeling it in.

I was VERY shocked by that post.

But it’s a different world FRiend.

I was out with my girl in a Brooklyn bar and some guy asked her what her breast size was.

I asked him if he said what i thought he did and he said “yes but i’m gay and was thinking about clothing so it’s ok!”

I said apologize and he did.

Might have gone down different when I was even 25.

But at 51, an apology sufficed.

He was definitely a fruit and he bought us a round of drinks after the apology so I let it go.

It’s a new world brother but it’s not a better one.

Well played, FRiend. And you even got a round of drinks out of the deal.

Still, that question was totally out of bounds. I would never have considered it, even when I was young and full of myself, as young men usually are.

My late Mom and I didn’t see eye to eye on many things — above all, she had a hard time dealing with the fact that I was the “intellectual” in the family. Note the scare quotes. I’m really just your garden-variety bookworm, without any pretensions to profundity.

But her best advice to me was: “Always be a gentleman.” And I’m sure that wherever she is now — and I trust it’s a good place — she knows that I follow that advice every day.
