Florida governor issues coronavirus stay-at-home order after heavy criticism

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) ordered a 30-day stay-at-home order for the state Wednesday to slow the spread of the coronavirus, ordering residents to stay indoors unless they are pursuing “essential services or activities."

The executive order will go into effect at midnight Thursday, DeSantis said, and his office will release more details on the restrictions later Wednesday.

DeSantis took heavy criticism from state lawmakers for waiting to order the restrictions, even as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in his state are surging.

The daily reports from the Florida Department of Health drive the fact home: The number of people testing positive for covid-19 has accelerated rapidly, nearly doubling in the past four days, with 3,274 new cases, bringing the statewide total to 6,741 as of Tuesday evening.

Still going to go out for daily exercise (cycling around the subdivision) as an essential purpose, often done before sunrise. Other part of the essential, it helps to inspire and keep up the morale of the neighbors to see me out there, giving the “Spock salute” to the dog walkers and other cyclists.

This too shall pass.

Go wherever you like, just take along a grocery list with TP, bleach, and hand sanitizer on it.

Yeah, sissypants just did the same in NevaDUH. Oddly, in his “procalmation” he indicates he started this on 3/12. In another location it says 3/17. I have my calendar marked for 3/19 as day 1. Even odder, in his ‘proclamation’ where he states 3/12, the next “whereas” indicates that PDJT called the emergency on 3/13. Thus ‘no chloroquinine’ for you sissypants had the President by a day. Yeah, right. Hey sissypants——fah Q!

eveyone living in florida should get and ‘emotional support gorilla’ to take on walks with them- and any one who stops them can just speak to the gorilla- because the folks are just too emotionally upset over the virus to talk

I work for a business with mulitple locations that is tagged as essential. I am going to get a “get out of jail free” pass from several of those locations to give me freedom of movement if this happens in Alabama. I can’t help it if I always have several fishing poles in my car. I’m too lazy to take them in the house. Now let me go to work!

He was letting the mayors make their own decisions ... a couple of cities, such as JAX, already had this. When I read it, it turned out to be less drastic than I feared.

I walk my dog every morning about 3/4 mile up and back on the sidewalk along A1A. There are maybe 20 people I meet in the course of the 40 minute walk - and without fail they (and I) move away from each other as we pass.

Am I going to be cited for this now?

It definitely helps with the sanity/isolation aspect of life and there’s no way in hell I’m putting myself or anyone else at risk.
