The irony here is that my coronavirus check will be used to pay my 2019 tax bill that is now deferred until July 15th. LOL.
Go Trump!
” If they haven’t filed a 2019 return, it’ll be based on the 2018 return... “
What if I sent in my paper 2018 return. Then got a letter that it wasn’t readable, send another one. I owed $0.
I used their own pdf fill-in able forms. Did it January 2020. As corna picked up I haven’t resubmitted.
It’s like they were punishing me for not electronic filing.
I just got my 2019 refund last week. That will be used to visit my youngest son in Indiana sometime this year. The stimulus money I’ll be getting will be used to pay for the new MacBook Air I had to buy when the screen on my 2011 MacBook Pro crapped the bed. At least the hard drive was salvageable. That machine didn’t owe me a penny.
The next mess is going to be related t9 sending these payment to old bank accounts and addresses.
I work for a tech company that supports financial institutions and I did an analysis and between 3 institutions there are about 6,000 accounts that received IRS refunds in either 2019 or 2020 for tax years 2018/2019 that the account is now closed. These are large community financial institutions with between 100,000 and 200,000 checking accounts. If we do nothing, that money gets sent back. You also have situations where one spouse will get the direct deposit that is split from the other.
In addition to that the IRS is going to mail checks to the last know address on a tax return. People move all the time. Not sure if they will get forwarded, returned or stolen.
Anyone know what to do if a bank account is no longer valid? One of my kids has divorced and the joint account with the ex is no longer in existence. And the ex lives at the home address, although the ex doesn’t make any money....
What about medically retired? I haven’t filed taxes in years. I guess me and my daughter are SOL.
Bump
Did you vote for Trump? =====> You should have voted correctly, sorry.
I’d like to read it, but every three seconds, the page reloads.
According to that article the IRS may have no regard for the law.
It also my initial understanding that eventually checks would be mailed if the IRS does not have direct deposit info. I don’t see any mention of that on their site. Basically the IRS is not communicating very well at all. Maybe they have no idea what they are doing.
Bookmarked.
My daughter has not filed a return in many years. She does get an SSI check deposited into her checking account on the 1st of every month. I wonder how/when she might get her stimulus check?
Well, I just did the income taxes this evening, and the e-file has been “accepted”. Experience in past years says my $486 overpayment will be returned to me in short order. Anything else I get will go into the contingency fund, whenever it gets here.
Bump for later.

So how does this work for someone who had a kid recently? Say 2018 shows no dependents, and 2019 hasn’t been filed yet? Or 2019/2020? Do you get the first check for the parents, and then the kid’s $500 check will come later? Or do they mark your accounts already paid off, so you’ll never get the $500 for the kiddo?
