Coronavirus: France reports record 499 deaths in a day, total death toll of 3,523

French health authorities reported a record 499 new deaths from coronavirus on Tuesday, taking the total to 3,523, an increase of 17 percent in the past 24 hours.

It was the third consecutive day that the rate of deaths accelerated in France, which is now in its third week of lockdown to try to slow the spread of the virus.

The daily government tally only accounts for those dying in hospital but authorities say they will very soon be able to compile data on deaths in retirement homes, which is likely to result in a big increase in registered fatalities.

State health agency director Jérôme Salomon told a news conference that the number of cases had risen to 52,128, a rise of 17 percent in 24 hours, probably due to the fact that France has been ramping up testing

Salomon said 5,565 people were in a serious condition needing life support, up 9 percent compared to Monday, a rate of increase slightly slower compared to previous days. The health system is struggling to cope with the pace of the outbreak.

Ugh.

And just a few days ago people were talking about France turning the corner. Though technically they could turn the corner on infections and still have increasing death counts for a couple of weeks.

What’s the average age and the incidence of preexisting conditions?

Didn’t many Frenchmen leave their elderly relatives at home to die in a heat wave while they went to cooler climes to chill out? I just don’t think they value the elderly like most countries do. Too “liberated.”

The thing is that France has no idea how many cases there are and/or how many deaths there have been in the "no-go" banlieues where Muslims have refused entry to the police who enforce social distancing rules and medical professionals who care for those infected.

We can only imagine that these locales are filthy with this disease.

That’s one heck of a leap. Are you sure every infected person in France received the prescriptions? If mass deaths AFTER the treatment were occurring, I’d guess the media would be reporting on it ad nauseum. So far, only you are.

Bingo bango. If there is massive spread, it will be in those communities, but who will know?

They wanted to have their own little slice of Sharia in a western society, and they got it. EMTs can’t even get into those places, and neither can firefighters. Who’s going to respond to them to help when they get mobbed every time they show up?

If there is massive spread, it will be in those communities, but who will know?

The thing is that some/many of those who live in the banlieues regularly go outside them and visit all part of, for example, Paris.

They will spread their disease and then disappears back into their hidey holes.

France and Europe are sitting on a powder keg unless this disease is killed off by the hot temperatures of summer.

Then thousands will die in the resulting heat wave.

Possibly, but isn't that a different subject? Unless you are saying that this virus is nothing special...and that is a credible point given the magnitude of the deaths so far.

I think the big deal of this disease so far is fear of its potential and that is based on what we are told by the doctors of its lethality and its quickness of contagion.

I would like to see how many of these are members of the cult that claims the virus can’t touch them.

Didn’t France let like 10,000 elderly die in nursing homes during a summer heat wave about 10 years ago? The French couldn’t be bother to break their August holidays to bury their parents.
