Note: This story has been updated with comments from the U.S. Navy.
The captain of a nuclear aircraft carrier with more than 100 sailors infected with the coronavirus pleaded Monday with U.S. Navy officials for resources to allow isolation of his entire crew and avoid possible deaths in a situation he described as quickly deteriorating.
The unusual plea from Capt. Brett Crozier, a Santa Rosa native, came in a letter obtained exclusively by The Chronicle and confirmed by a senior officer on board the aircraft carrier Theodore Roosevelt, which has been docked in Guam following a COVID-19 outbreak among the crew of more than 4,000 less than a week ago.
This will require a political solution but it is the right thing to do, Crozier wrote. We are not at war. Sailors do not need to die. If we do not act now, we are failing to properly take care of our most trusted asset our Sailors.

LOL! Perhaps you forgot. You are too chicken to name your MC!

“”Crozier should be swiftly demoted and removed from service.””
De-nutted might be even better.
His defect may be DNA-related and we shouldn’t take any chances

Looks like a perfect situation for chloroquine to be made available to every sailor who succumbs to the virus. Don’t tell me the military doesn’t have chloroquine in stock.

The sailors are all young and supposedly in shape. They are more likely to die in a ship board accident. What’s the big deal? For them it is mostly like having the flu or a cold. Toughen-up, Swabbies! Have we become a nation of snowflakes .

I don't pretend to know anything about navy communique.
It does seem strange this letter is not addressed to someone specific.
Most stories I read from other news organizations, refer back to the San Francisco Chronicle when talking about the letter.
On top of that, the timelines seem all whacked.
The Big Stick has been docked in Guam since 3/27/2020 yet the letter is dated 3/30/2020.
I couldn't find where the Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly admitted the letter exists and he had this to say:
“I heard about the letter from Capt. Crozier (Tuesday) morning, I know that our command organization has been aware of this for about 24 hours and we have been working actually the last seven days to move those sailors off the ship and get them into accommodations in Guam.
Woking on this for 7 days means the Navy has been at it since at least 03/24/2020.

This is complete and utter BS... Bingo!
What was "leaked" to the lib press is almost certainly an amateur knock-off of typical USN phraseology. It is highly unlikely the "letter" Navy Secretary Thomas Modly may have spoke about to CNN.
Easy to imagine investigators are hard at work on this one.
