Scary how cheaply we have surrendered our liberties without so much as a whimper. When all is said and done with this virus we may find that much of the threat was hype and media fear mongering driven by Trump loathing. The abuse of power by state governors is frightening. How quickly could they like Florida impose unprecedented bans on basic liberties for threats real or imagined. Fears that states like Virginia could be confuscating guns is not paranoia but a chillingly real prospect.
It’s nuts. DeSantis has been pretty good, and it’s only been the county or city officials who have tried to unleash their inner Stalin.
There’s a lot of pressure on governors to stop interstate travel, and I think there needs to be an emergency challenge in SCOTUS immediately. When sitting around the ‘campfire’ settling the worlds problems I do manage to come up now and then and declare the ‘chaos’ surrounding the WashDC area during the ‘sniper incident’ and all the roadblocks searching for a white van (didn’t stop ‘them’ from checking other vehicles) was nothing but a test run.
Although put out there(by me) as a ‘joke’, due to recent happenings, when one realizes the FBI was point.(They designated a Black Montgomery County MD LEO as the ‘lead man’.....what better fall guy AND way to keep the criticism to a minimum when they ‘screwed up’).
Anyhow we basically faced more ‘terror’ going about our business while LEO was routinely ‘stopping and checking’ any and everybody.

The White late model Van turned out to be a POSchiff two toned Chevy Impala with a gun mount in the trunk and the ‘alleged (Two White Guys)’ turned out to be A black RET USArmy type and his ‘teenage boyfriend’
Conveniently, the Black Perp was named Mohammed and Virginia etal saw to it that he received a swift execution (only 7 years), almost as fast as ‘they’ dispatched Timothy McVeigh(6 years).....

Has this writer ever traveled into Arizona from outside the state. They stop everyone and make them throw away their fruit. Or at least they did last time I traveled through Arizona.

You do realize there’s been a similar checkpoint at California Interstate crossings for several decades now? Ostensibly it was to prevent ‘foreign’ fruit from entering, buuuuuut....
Supposedly, the COVID-19 virus does not do well with warmth and humidity. With extensive air conditioning throughout Florida, that does not count for much, except in discouraging people who are ill with a fever from going to work or out on errands. Having to brave twenty paces in Florida summer heat and humidity and waiting until the AC in your car kicks in can be a formidable practical inducement to stay home.
Yes, I know of the Agricultural stations at the Florida boarder (I see them every time I drive to Florida).
But they are just for commercial vehicles and anything in tow to prevent invasive species coming into the state. I understand that ... their industry could be devastated if some insect or fruit/vegie rot got in there.
Are we to expect to see these Check Point Carlie’s poping up at every state boarder?
The California ones stopped every vehicle on the road, not just commercial vehicles.
