Two ships carrying passengers and crew from an ill-fated South American cruise are pleading with Florida officials to let them carry off the sick and dead, but Gov. Ron DeSantis says Florida's health care resources are already stretched too thin.

Idiot in govt.
Those passengers pre-paid port fees for departure from Ft. Lauderdale and dang-namit, paid for return to Ft. Lauderdale.
The port took there money months ago. It was a 77 day sailing.
Argentina was only a stop for most of them. Some even have cars in Ft. Lauderdale waiting for them to return.
Out of Buenos Aires I believe. Around Patagonia, up the west coast and back through the panama canal. So, will they get charged extra for the extra time at sea?
So they let spring breakers flood their bleachers and coastal towns but wont let people in who are on a ship that left Florida? Governor sounds like an imbecile regardless if hes a republican.
What level of idiots are still going on cruises?
Why would they have gone out to begin with? Cruise liners will be so screwed. This in particular is such abysmal PR.
Battery check.
They should pull the sick and the dead off, and let the others do their 14 day quarantine on the ship.
A plague ship says what?
“Yeah I know it’s probably not a GREAT idea.. But the tickets are so cheap right now! And what could possibly go wrong?”
I guess they acted this way in them middle ages...
They should bring them in and ask the federal government to send resources if needed.
The local government there are democratics they do not care about human life.
They left before the SHTF.
Bingo.
I’ve heard that Cuba has excellent medical resources.
You had me for a second. Battery check huh.
Then I reread the cars in the lots. LOL
Too bad many in this thread don’t grasp the concept of 77 day adventure.
Ship left in mid-January. Sailed down the Atlantic coast of South America. Spent a week in the Amazon. Then on to ‘touch’ the ice of Antarctica. That’s when globally things went to hell. That ship hasn’t made a pier since the tip of Chile.
I still say it was the stops along the way to ‘swap’ out entertainers that brought the virus onboard.
” pleading with Florida officials to let them carry off the sick and dead “
SF Chronicle. Hyperbole much? That said, the people on that ship left before it hit the fan. There has to be a way to let them off the ship.
US citizens obviously have a right of entry into the country. Nobody else does. These are not American owned, American crewed or American flagged vessels. They do not pay their taxes to the US. Oh, and there’s the fact that a whole bunch of other countries turned them away also. Governor DeSantis is right to not allow them to just dump their sickies on Florida.
“Governor sounds like an imbecile regardless if hes a republican.”
I would vote the Governor out.
Damn entertainers anyway.
I don’t know what the solution is, but I’m glad I was not on any of these various ships.
What a nightmare.
