Cell phone data reveals which California counties are not socially distancing
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | March 30, 2020 | By Eric Ting

Want to know which California counties are evidently not doing a very good job of obeying the statewide shelter-in-place order that has been in effect for over a week now?

The data company Unacast, a firm that collects cell phone location data for private companies, created an interactive map that shows which counties in California and beyond are correctly "socially distancing" by staying at home.

Each county and state is graded on an A-F basis on the "change in average mobility," or the decline in distance traveled since quarantine measures were first put in place.

"To calculate the actual underlying social indexing score we combine tens of millions of anonymous mobile phones and their interactions with each other each day - and then extrapolate the results to the population level," Unacast writes in its methodology.

While it is somewhat unnerving to know we're being unwittingly tracked at all times, the data is useful in providing a picture of social distancing at work. The state of California received an "A" grade overall thanks to a 40 percent decline in average distanced traveled, but several counties - all in rural areas with few reported cases - have actually logged an increase in distance traveled since the shelter-in-place order was issued.

What happens when the illegally-obtained data shows that certain members of government-certified victim groups are not complying with orders from Central Control?

The data will be suppressed.

Stupid “problem.”

People in rural communities are checking on people in rural communities, whom might be family or friends.

People in rural communities have more issues with getting to good hospitals, so check-ins prevent that as an urgent need.

Leave them alone and let them do what they do!

The data will be suppressed.

A "computer glitch" will prevent that data from being reported, although it will be collected.

Even rural communities can check on family and friends by a neat gadget called a phone.

Our local paper reported the same thing about my area. It’s BS. It looks at how far people travel for the baseline. here there are still people who travel into work. It does not compare two phones side by side.

KILL THEM!!! KILL THEM ALL!!!

Isn’t that the stupid response we’re supposed to have to this gaslighting story, that we should be angry and demand people be punished for not obeying silly rules??

The book, 1984, was easily written in 1949. George Orwell, the author, knew people were stupid and easily manipulated, like cows in a herd they will do anything the herd is told to do.

I’m not “intentionally” social distancing. I’m on my acreage and have not been out for over a week. But I don’t need to be out yet. I’m working from home.

But when I do go out (as I did about a week ago) it was business as usual.
