My son did his basic training last summer. Everyone in his platoon was sick the whole time but most ground through it and graduated. Oorah! Semper Fi

My daughter was at Parris Island the year before. They were sick, too. I called it “The Parris Island Upper-Respiratory Crud,” and one of my FRiends asked, “Is that like Kennel Cough?”
Her older sister used to come home from the Coast Guard with “the Ship Plague.”
This makes me very sad. I hope all the young people make a complete recovery.

When I was there in '89, one guy got strep throat, and another, really bad bronchitis. Both had to be taken out of training.
Other than that, nobody else got really sick. Yes, this was in the summer. May to August. Several 'Black Flag' days.

I hear that at Navy boot camp at Great Lakes, if you're not sick, something's wrong with you.

South Carolina was braking all time heat records during his training. “Pain is MRE’s leaving the body”

While it may be hotter than holy hell at the Stumps, they don’t do basic training there. PI wins hands down for both heat and humidity.

In the Navy we called it the Ricky Recruit Crud. When 80 men or women live in a barracks and use the same showers and toilets and sinks, everyone eventually gets sick.

Wow, doing basic training at Paris Island in the summer. What's better than that? Coach Weber's summer football camp. The guy was a sadist.

South Carolina was braking all time heat records during his training. When it's that hot they move training into the barracks ... where DIs can get away with a lot of, ah, mischief.

Anything like "The Junction Boys"? I'm not sure, but it was brutal. And somewhere the bugger picked up the idea that drinking water wasn't good for an athlete in the hot weather, so he'd make us take salt tablets, because, in his words, "salt is to the body as a dam is to water."

My daughter’s friend mentioned Tinian as the worst place she’d ever seen.

Well, Tinian is at least mostly dry.
The Philippines on the other hand, are full of these little islands that stick up out of the ocean just enough for some idiot to plant a crop of pineapples. Even the mosquitoes get bit by mosquitoes.
Alas Tinian is part of the Northern Marianas so the United States is stuck with it.
There is an Island south of Rota (forget the name) that's flat on top with cliffs above the rocky sea on all sides. It would be the perfect place...to permanently quarantine Congress to.

LOL! I’ve been to Yuma. Must have been in the early 1970s. I recall visiting Yuma Territorial Prison and lots of desert scenery.
