Andrew Cuomo is no longer just New York's governor - he is now America's governor. Thanks to his excellent leadership during the overwhelming health crisis caused by the coronavirus, Cuomo has provided much-needed comfort and information to the entire country. He has been so effective and has presented such a stark contrast with the vacuum of leadership in the White House that now some people are saying he should be America's president.
As a New Yorker, I understand where they're coming from, but I wish they would stop. First, New York needs Cuomo's leadership now and in the months to come. Second, former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont would fight any late entry he would make into the race for the Democratic presidential nomination, which could lead to President Donald Trump's re-election. Third, there is no need for a third reason; the first two should be enough.
As someone who served as special adviser to Cuomo, I've seen him handle a looming transit strike, the Ebola crisis and natural disasters. I get what people are drawn to, as it's the same thing that can drive his staff nuts - a complete dedication to the facts and a depth of knowledge of how government works at the federal, state and municipal levels.
Those who are asking why didn't Cuomo run for president should understand that it was never in the cards for the governor, whose poll numbers were at an unimpressive 43 percent just seven months ago before skyrocketing to 71 percent now.
New Yorkers love to hate our sports teams and elected officials. But while a lot of people have had issues with Cuomo, we are not willing to trade him. He belongs to New York, and we need him to stay here.

Cuomoron handled the Ebola crisis? WTF is this woman talking about. How many confirmed Ebola cases were there in this entire country? A handful as I recall. Another cable hired Repuke “strategist”. How come Cuomo left NY so unprepared to this outbreak? He squandered NY’s money on solar energy projects that failed and refused to buy respirators. Now, he screams and cries about needing respirators and thinks that the American taxpayers should buy what he refused to by with NY taxpayer’s money.

He didn’t really shut down travel from China totally or from Europe either. He talked down the importance of it for the first six weeks, which made his taking the action needed harder. He didn’t get the testing ramped up when needed. Late on PPE and ventilator production through the DPA too. Still not nearly enough production or use of hazmat suits, which is what our front line deserve, let alone masks. Does he even still realize that Fauci and Birx are his and the country’s enemies? And if so, what’s he doing doing whatever they say?
I’m all for Trump and he’s outwardly handling it decently now.
But I live in Blue Country where folks are livid at him for allowing our testing to be behind all those Asian countries. For months.
Oh, and Trump is heroic, but he also created a fair amount of his challenges by putting his Israeli Deep State, corrupt SIL in charge of his transition team—and then naming Deep Staters to run up almost every element of his admin.

That is just flat out a lie because you state it as fact. We only knew about human transmission the middle of January... and he put out the travel ban (okay lib, not totally)the first week of February (later berated by the EA for his restrictions on them)... and received massive grief... and Pelosi/Quomo mocked him in the media requesting Chinese New Year celebrations in the streets. How was this talking down? Give me some of those 6 weeks dates... during most of which he was pummeled for being a panic driven racist while being impeached for cripes sake. Talking down the importance my ass - you have a lot of nerve. Trump was guarded only saying that the virus was serious, but the government was under control. He was always more focused than the media or the states.

Again, you are playing the Trump incompetency card. Implying that Trump is incompetent is a lie by misrepresenting the entire series of events. I've seen every presser.... basically, Fauci and Birx have backed up what Trump has said. Sometimes they have had to qualify later in the media what they have said during the Presser. Fauci went on CNN and said not to hold him to his projections because it is a moving target
Bottom line... Trump is getting it from everywhere, all sides. He doesn't need you're second guessing his ramping up of equipment or his aspirations of when to get back to work.
