Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva announced he will no longer order that gun stores be temporarily closed during the coronavirus pandemic.
For the second time, he said that gun stores could reopen after ordering them to close twice since last Tuesday. He had previously deemed them nonessential," saying that panic buying produced long lines and could be a safety hazard for the public.
Villanueva said the most recent decision stems from an Advisory Memorandum issued by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Saturday that said workers supporting the firearms and ammunition industry were "included in the list of essential critical infrastructure workers."

Wow, some sanity for a change?
NJ has done the same.
For the first time in a long time, people seem to be questioning the motives of the nanny state.
Could have surprised me. We keep getting more and more sanctions and lock downs each day. Unraveling all of the state and local executive orders is going to be a nightmare, and it won’t happen overnight.
The very last place you expect those in power to respect the laws or the Constitution is Calif.
Sad but true.
I dont think it has anything to do with sanity. My guess is that once the U.S. government listed firearms dealers as essential business establishments, these state and local officials knew damn well that theyre likely to end up on the wrong end of major Federal lawsuits filed by their constituents if they kept the gun dealers shut down.
reverse the law on ammunition sales, as well...
Yeah right, that’s why they assist ICE too right? Nope!
Gun stores may be opening back up but won’t be much good if background checks are taking forever or not being processed.
Yeah I have to wait a long time because of all this with the Ruger GP-100 I am going to buy from a friend.
Pancho Villa Nueva.
The laws need to be clearer about giving the government x number of days to complete a background check otherwise it is approved by default. I’d say three days.
Queue Nelson: “Ha, Ha !”
Just remember, folks, a man with the state sanctioned power of the use of force saw it fit to declare an ‘order’ to close down a set of specific establishments he did not agree with.
This is why the police are not your friends ever, but most especially during a crisis, even a contrived crisis powered by propaganda and information warfare.

In California there are no legal private sales. All firearm transfers must go through an FFL and be approved by both state and fed authorities.
Further, one must pass a written test on firearm safety.
Lastly, one must wait (10) business days (that's two weeks for you and me) before taking possession.
It is nice to have a little sanity in government, even if it is imposed on the basis of litigation.
Now the problem. In my State, the gun ranges are pretty much closed, at least the newsletter I got from the gun range I belong to explained why they closed under the advice of their lawyers.
With out some practice time at a gun range or suitable location (hard to find in Urban areas) getting a new firearm and ammo is problematic. Many handguns require a break in period. For pistols, one should practice clearing jams. One should understand by instinct and muscle memory all of the firearm functions to be really safe.
Yes, it is a constitutional right, but people need to practice, practice and practice and especially learn the safety rules and laws governing deadly force.
Haha, Trump smacked down the dumb cholo who hates our Constitution.
He got his a$$ handed to him by Constitutional PDJT.
HRC would appoint him AG and order gun confiscation.
The piece of schiff has no values, no principles and can’t make a decision - changes his mind. All qualities we look for in government employees.
The constitution is completely clear about background checks, “Shall not infringe.” Background checks don’t stop criminals from getting weapons, they inconvenience law abiding citizens.
