RI expands screening order, no longer targeting New Yorkers

All out-of-state passenger vehicles, not just those from New York, entering Rhode Island at the southern border with Connecticut will be asked to stop at information centers where they must provide contact information and self-quarantine for 14 days if they plan to stay, Gov. Gina Raimondo and the head of the state police said Sunday.

Raimondo explained Sunday that she expanded an order beyond New Yorkers to anyone coming to Rhode Island for a nonwork-related reason, directing them to self-quarantine.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had threatened to sue the state for targeting New Yorkers. Raimondo said she expanded the order due to a spike in cases in other states.

“The procedure we have in place does not violate anyone’s constitutional rights,” Col.James Manni, superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police, said during the state’s coronavirus response update Sunday.

Tokyo Olympics rescheduled for July 23-Aug. 8 in 2021

Before the policy update, Raimondo said that state National Guard members would go door-to-door in coastal communities to find out whether any of the home’s residents have recently arrived from New York and inform them of the quarantine order.

“If you want to seek refuge in Rhode Island, you must be quarantined,” she said at the time.

The order for all nonessential retail businesses to close in the state does not include grocery stores or restaurants, which can continue to offer take-out. The state is considering ways for businesses to do curbside pickup or delivery, officials said.

Raimondo continued to implore residents to follow social distancing guidelines and follow her order to stay home, unless they need to get food or medicines, and to interact with no more than the same five people.

Rhode Island reported its third death from the virus on Sunday.

Nope - “I do not answer questions from law enforcement, agents of the state or the press; without the presence of my attorney”.

Borders matter. If the Dem reTards in places like California and New York are not going to enforce the borders, and let diseases in, then eventually states bordering them might need to enforce their internal borders. Cut off access to Red States from Blue.

This is turning out to be a trial run for eventual "next steps along the road" - including heavy-handed executive rule in most States, and the rising barriers between various political entities: states, regions, city vs. country.

“Or what?”

Exactly. The cops will tell you to quarantine, add “have a nice day, be safe.” and let you go on your merry way.

Maybe the tens of miles long traffic jams will keep people away.

How is this interfering with truck traffic?

My granddaughter goes to Brown. When they started to shut down, she went to her parents cottage in Ma..

So she is studying from there.

She said the only human she has seen in 14 days is the head of a man on the other side of a fence. She named him Dave.

I think it's the guy from Tool Time.

Doesn't say how and where they are going to do that. Lock 'em up?

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo had threatened to sue the state for targeting New Yorkers.

Cuomo would have to sue in a Rhode Island court. A state can only be sued in its own courts. 11th Amendment.
