STOCKHOLM (AP) The streets of Stockholm are quiet but not deserted. People still sit at outdoor cafes in the center of Swedens capital. Vendors still sell flowers. Teenagers still chat in groups in parks. Some still greet each other with hugs and handshakes.
After a long, dark Scandinavian winter, the coronavirus pandemic is not keeping Swedes at home even while citizens in many parts of the world are sheltering in place and wont find shops or restaurants open on the few occasions they are permitted to venture out.

“Yeah, no wonder it’s called SweDUHn”
We’ll see, they are now a control group. In two weeks If their numbers don’t spike then why are we under house arrest?
I hope the Swedish society and politicians have the courage to continue with their generally open policies.
So much will be learned from this about the spread of the disease, obtaining herd immunity, and in particular, the consequences of government action (overreaction?)
3400 confirmed and a 3% fatality rate. If you don’t have any local cases, it is probably OK. We had no cases until students came back from Spring Break. Both cases are those types.
Maybe they are afraid of offending the Friday “Prayers” mob.
Isn’t the Netherlands doing similar?
Im asking for a Swedish friend of mine who owns a car.
Screw this! I am going out!
DUNNO WHERE I”M GONNA GO, the whole damn state is on lock down.
What does Bernie think of this? They’re his heroes.
Agreed on the importance of the control group take. There is a benefit from allowing local governments to use judgment rather than everyone trying to out-virtue-signal each other.
My hunch is that this will either turn out to be a fantastic success or a breathtakingly dismal failure. Not being an expert on such things I wouldn’t bet a nickel on *either* of those outcomes.
Dr Brix suggested the reason for the low infection rates in these far north countries is because there were so few tourists during the winter months. Makes perfect sense.
I doubt that there were many Chinese ‘tourists” in Italy over the last few months.
Screw this! I am going out!
DUNNO WHERE IM GONNA GO, the whole damn state is on lock down.
Agree, if youve been inside for 2 weeks and feel well..do it! We did yesterday. With a little investigation, found a barber shop. No mask people, just regular types, though not many there. No rules, we all (3) of us sat apart from each other watching an old sports rerun on the big screen. It felt exhilarating...and I learned the cops get their haircuts there. Surprise.
Ext we set out to find a Mexican restaurant to eat outside. We found one but we couldnt eat on the property. The city had a beautiful street entrance with 2 cement tables and benches only about 50 feet from the restaurant. We ate outside, drank margaritas from Pepsi cups and felt free.
Lastly I stopped at a high end grocery store. Lots of mask people, lines on the floor not to cross...bought 4 thick filets, a bottle of BV Tapestry and a fresh blueberry pie. People dint like my Tee, but too bad. It reads,
NO ONE
OWES YOU
ANYTHING
A very good day!
Physician? Pffffttttt. I figgered it all on my own. LOL!
I did that on Friday with a friend. Just a drive out in the country with no destination. With gas cheap and hardly any traffic it’s an ideal time to do so.
You are kidding, right? There is one of the largest Chinese groups of immigrants in Italy. It is that group traveling back from China that started the virus in Italy.
They are. Everyone needs to remember that we are trying to SLOW the spread, not stop it, so that hospitals are not overwhelmed. Stopping the spread cannot be sustained. How long to do you isolate and lockdown? What happens when you lifer the restrictions? Does the virus just disappear?
Eventually most of us will contract this thing. Our best hope is for the healthy to go through it so as to gain a measure of national immunity so that it will be safer for the vulnerable.
No one brings this up but what happens when a significant military power gains national immunity while another is in shutdown mode?
