This Is How Long Thomas Massie's Challenge to the Wuhan Coronavirus Relief Bill Lasted

Well, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) is probably the most hated man in Washington D.C. right now. He threatened to derail passage of the Wuhan coronavirus relief bill that sailed through the Senate on a 96-0 vote. It’s a $2 trillion package that admittedly has some bad stuff in it, but American businesses and workers need relief as the nation fights this Wuhan coronavirus outbreak that’s infected over 85,000 people and killed at least 1,200. States have adopted severe measures to stop the spread, instituting bans of mass gatherings of more than 10 people, closing non-essential businesses for a least a month or more, and shuttering the schools. The markets have tanked. It was imperative that the government compile this rescue package to help workers, stabilize the markets, and ensure that the flow of credit remains unrestricted.

Yet, Massie threatened to gum up the works unless there was a recorded vote, which would have put the entire House at risk of exposure to this disease. D.C., Virginia, and Maryland are virtually on lockdown, with the District recently shuttering non-essential businesses until the end of April. Massie’s antics forced scores of lawmakers to fly back in case he succeeded in his effort. This move had some calling for Massie to be expelled from the House.

Cry me a river if Congress had to be called back to DO THEIR JOB!

yup. And plenty of freepers were cheering Trump on when he trashed Massie, because, you know, gotta support Trump. There is no reason they have to be present for a recorded vote. I'd be willing to bet almost any amount of money that you care to name, that Massie would have been cool with a vote by email, as long as the vote is recorded. The rules of the house and senate are set by the house and senate. If they want to change the rules, they can do so. Trump was wrong for calling him out on this. There should be no such thing as a 'voice vote'. Ever. These cretins should be on record for every vote they take.

Screw them all, the bunch of entitled assholes.

I was rooting for Massie. Every constitutionalist on FR should be doing the same.

You would think so. Unfortunately, any alleged "crisis" short-circuits many freeper's brains. I've seen this happen multiple times. I'm always disappointed in it. That's on me. I should know that sheep far outnumber sheepdogs.

Donald Trump’s dumbest tweet ever. That’s saying a lot.

I don't know if House rules would allow voting by email, but considering the circumstances, Nanking Nancy should have figured out an alternate way of voting.

Either that or move the Congress to a secured location somewhere.

I live in Massie’s district.

Must be nice to have a congresscritter that actually stands for something. I can't remember the last time I had an opportunity to vote for someone like that.

House rules are whatever the house says they are. I'd bet Massie wouldn't have had a problem with a voice vote to allow alternate methods to get everyone on record. They just didn't want to be on record with this vote.
